I don't know about anything else, but the best chicken fry, hands down, has got to be Mary's in Strawn.

I don't know if this is still true, but years ago I thought the Koffe Kup Kafe in Hico had a great chicken fry.

I am with jrfan on Marys having the best chicken fry. I lived in Stephenville for 7 years and I made the trip almost weekly. Havent been there in a couple of years but next time I go to Mason I'm stopping to get one.

I think I know what bbq place that you are talking about. We eat there every trip. Lone Star BBQ in Brady is good too.

i saw the topic and immediatly thought of Mary's. Last time I was there I had an Aoudad in the back of the truck in the ice chest w/ the lid up. He was upside down and when we came out someone had stuck a longneck bottle in his mouth. I have a pic of it somewhere.

Marys has my vote, also has a great breakfast. I'm not sure if it's still open but a place in downtown McKinny called Dorthy's across from the court house darn plate looked like it had wings on it. And the best lemon pies in the world.

Mary's is about the best there is,we used to eat there at least once every two weeks when I went to Tarleton State, in Stephenville. They also used to have an all you can eat special a few nights a week, we would go for the chicken fajita's they were real good as well, not to mention they have ice cold beer pretty cheap!!! Two other chiken fry's come to mind as well the Dixie Pig in Abilene, excelent CFS, also in some mall in San Antonio, the place was called Jail House Cafe i think, anyways they had a chicken fry that was served with queso instead of gravy, it was different but very very good.

All of y'all must be smokin crack. Mary's?????? I live 10 minutes away from Marys. I have lived here for 14 years ate there 5 times and swore I would never be back every time I left. But each time I decided to give them another chance. The service is slow. Takes three weeks to get your meal and the place is extremely noisy. Leave that place to the out of towners. The locals know better. Go across the street to Flossies. The steak is bigger than the plate and is served with a BIG bowl of gravy. When you get done grab a good soft serve ice cream cone on the house. Or take a drive over to Mingus. Go to BJ's and get an awesome pizza. Or The Smokestack for an exclent steak. Or across I-20 from the Smoke Stack to New York Hill for a chicken fry or some very good pork chops. Marys???
