I guess the reason it came across the way it did, is that killing a State record Deer in Texas, has more to do with the amount of money a person has to spend then on actual hunting skills or accumen.

In Texas, most of the folks that kill the bigger bucks have been watching these animals over several seasons and know the animal they are after just like they know their own dog.

It is usualy not a case of knowing how big it is, but a case of not realizing it was bigger than they thought it was.

Did not mean to come across as feeling you were underqualified, but more as a case of uninformed.

Deer hunting in Texas especially, is not like the things you described, the fishing or the bird hunting, simply because the unknown variables that make those two sports challenging, have been removed for the most part from deer hunting here in Texas.

Rarely is it a case of if i kill a big buck and more of a case of when I will kill the big buck.

JMO, but I feel that to get an accurate accounting of the state of deer hunting here in the state, you would need to do a series of programs and interview folks that hunt all of the different ways of hunting for deer here in the state, than just those that for what ever reason are able to afford the animals that some folks look upon as records.

What would not even be given the classifacation as a cull on a high fence property, might be the deer of a lifetime off of Public Land.

Think about that, see if your bosses will go for a series of shows addressing the complexities of der hunting here in Texas instead of just doping one on the "trophy" animals that have been killed.

Again, I apologize for any thing I said that offended you, I just feel that there is more to the story of deer hunting here in Texas, than the 10 biggest bucks ever taken in the state.

Never said I did...read my post- don't claim to be an expert on any of them. Never have. Didn't grow up hunting either- parents never had a gun in the house...but I did grow up camping and fishing and being in the great outdoors...and if you were in my situation and had the opportunity to host a show about something you are passionate about and in a career that you wanted to be in- wouldn't you do it?

Thats why I joined this forum...to take experiences and knowledge from those who have been accumulating it for years, and then applying to my own adventures.

And I have caught the gators without spearing them, just not one that was 5 ft long- was about to reach in and grab a huge one when my guide grabbed my arm and shook his finger NO at me.

I then realized that he was trying to tell that his eyes were too far apart (meaning he was huge) and that it wouldn't be wise to try and barehand this one.

I'll stick to catching the 3 footers and spearing anything bigger than that........tasted good!
