A lot of threads have been popping up about which 22 LR pistol to buy, I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread that lists details about specific 22 LR pistols, with pictures, and perceived pros and cons.
Ill start off with the ones I own.
Smith and Wesson 22A-1 ( ~329$) – I got it as a Christmas gift
• Model: 22A
• Caliber: .22 LR
• Capacity: 10+1 Rounds
• Barrel Length: 5.5" / 13.9 cm
• Front Sight: Patridge
• Rear Sight: Adjustable
• Grip: Soft Touch
• External Safety: Manual Thumb
• Frame: Large
• Finish: Two-Tone
• Overall Length: 9.5" / 24.1 cm
• Material: Aluminum Alloy Frame
Stainless Steel Slide
• Weight Empty: 34.4 oz / 975.2 g
• Purpose: Recreational
Handgun Hunting

Came in a Cardboard Box

Two Magazines

Extra recoil buffers, test shell, warranty, manual, and lock

Its kind of an ugly pistol, but it is very ergonomic with great pointabillity, trigger pull, and balance.

Typical oversize block target sights

Slide release

Safety Off

Safety On

Magazine release is on the front of the grip

Take down button

Broke down for cleaning – Once you get the hang of it is quick and easy. The recoil spring an guide rod will shoot out if your not careful.

Pros –
• Shoots good
• Crisp smooth trigger
• Ergonomic, pointability, balance
• Scope rail for mounting optics
• Quick take down
Cons-
• Magazine release is located in a poor spot and recessed
• Safety lever doesn’t cover up the orange dot, so visual appraisal isn’t easy.
• Magazines are finicky to load, and one of magazines hangs up on the second shot. Need to contact SW.
• It has a little plastic recoil buffer. Comes with extra because they are cheap POS.
• The rear sights are wider than the slide, so its difficult to rack the slide.
• Does not come with a case

Fish hook front sight

Taken down for cleaning – the barrel/frame also come off, but on this model you have to tap it off with a rubber mallet.

Side by Side with the SW

Pros –
• Accepts any 22 ammo I have fed it
• Functions great
• Super pointabillity
• Great balance
• Nice trigger
• Easy to rack slide
• Magazines load extremely easy, and are not finicky
• Can go a long time without cleaning
• Attractive pistol, hard case included

Cons –
• I don’t like the Euro magazine release, but its still better than the SW mag release
• Safety – its hard to tell if its on safe or Fire. Wish it had some orange built in
• Take down is tough, and not intuitive at all. It takes some practice and a manual.

sr22 is better than both of these. i would put 22/45 by ruger up next. for .22 handguns the best in my opinion are
the sr22
mark III or the 22/45
s&w m&p .22

My Heritage 22lr revolver was about $100 and it shoots straight. Neighborhood squirrels don't like it much and it's a blast out on the boat. PITA to load though. Still, I'd buy it all over again given the chance

the ONLY con about my Kimber (as far as I am concerned) is the price in relation to other 22s. Otherwise I love it.

I took my SW out today and put a few hundred rounds through it, I guess it just needed breaking in because now the magazines are functioning 100%, and the mag release button is now easy to use.

I don't know about all that. I have shot those SR 22s, and I am not real found of the triggers.

My buddy has one, and I agree, they are a pain to load. They are kinda loud too. But still a fun gun, especially for the price.

I concur, the bearcats are really nice. They are just a little small for my gorilla size hands.

First time I saw those Berettas, they even had some blue accents. I had to do a double take and make sure they were a real gun. They look so futuristic, I wasn't sure.

I have several Ruger's and Beretta's and like them both a lot. I have yet to have any fails in my Beretta. I bought a Browning Buck Mark on Friday, but have not had a chance to try it yet. Anyone have experience with the buck mark?

I have one of the Ruger 22/45 Lite models also. It weighs 22 oz so it is lightweight. I have always hated the 10 round mags. When I am plinking I hate reloading mags. I have looked for a Kel-tec PMR-30 for 2 years with no luck. Finally found one a few weeks ago. It holds 30 rounds of 22mag and weighs 13 oz unloaded.

Ruger does not offer the gold anymore on the 22/45.

I had a chance to shoot the Browning Buck mark today. I only put about 150 rounds thru it and it worked perfectly. It feels great in my hand, and was accurate at 15 yards. I would not hesitate to recommend this pistol to anyone.

I've had a Buckmark for going on 20 years. Great gun but kind of a pain in the rear to breakdown and clean.

Another one worth mentioning is the Taurus 941 revolver. I've got a 2" barrel that gets carried in the field more than any gun I own...usually with rat shot. The DA trigger pull is horrible but it is accurate enough when shot SA and it is light and reliable. Between me and my son's we've shot thousands of rounds through it with no issues. I would have rather have a S&W but for the money the Taurus has served well.

Nice. I love my 22/45 "heavy". Love the VQ trigger guts, bet you do too.

Noticed the trigger did ya? Volquartsen and Tandemkross parts should be an option on all Ruger 22 pistols. The upgrade makes such a difference!!
