I don't know how I missed it when it was first published, but I'm now reading Colter it's about the best bird dog the author ever had. It was published in 2,000. I got it on Book Bud for two dollars.

I'm on Rocket Boys right now. If you've seen October Sky, that's the story. Just finished Jump into the Valley of the Sadow.

How is everyone's reading going?
Who all has read all five of the Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) books? I finally picked up A Dance with Dragons the other day and so far (through 300 pages) it is just not living up to the previous four. I loved the first four. Hope this one picks up.
I am at 59 books for the year. Since I last posted on here I have read: Deep Dive, The End of Competitive Advantage, and Good Strategy Bad Strategy (business strategy books) A Feast for Crows (Game of Thrones #4) Of Mice and Men Lord of the Flies True North (business leadership book) The Catcher in the Rye The Lost World (much better than Jurassic Park which I hated. Only read these two because they are on a list of 100 books every man should read that I am working my way through).

Anyone ever feel like there is just not enough time to read all the books you want? I keep a "to-read" list of books and there are so many on it that at my current pace it would take me 7 years to read them all. It is overwhelming!

Just started Maneaters by Peter Hathaway Capstick. This book looks at the most notorious maneating animals on the planet. Capstick was one of the best authors on hunting and game, so I was pumped when I found this one at 1/2 Price Books. Little different from most of his other books, but still entertaining.

I saw Catcher in the Rye listed above. That and the Great Gatsby are hands down the best books ever written. A River Runs through It isn't too bad either.

I enjoyed reading The Great Gatsby, but didn't care for Catcher in the Rye. In my opinion, Hemingway, Steinbeck, and Robert Penn Warren ( All the Kings Men) were much better writers than Salinger. I actually liked River Runs Through It even more than I liked The Great Gatsby.

Catcher in the Rye was ok, but I don't understand the love for Holden Caulfield. I have read numerous reviews of people who loved the book because they can relate to HC because he "represents a period that all teenagers go through" (rebellious and apathetic but sad beneath).
Ummm, I must have missed that part in my teenage years. I just thought he a fruit loop.
And yes I understand that the part of the point of the story was that he hated "phonies" while being a phony himself. I just don't see the love for HC.

I saw Catcher in the Rye listed above. That and the Great Gatsby are hands down the best books ever written. Catcher in the Rye is one of the worst books Ive ever read. Absolutely pointless book, I have no clue how its a classic. I wish I could scrub it from my memory. I'm on Rocket Boys right now. If you've seen October Sky, that's the story. Rocket Boys is one of my all time favorite books. Great story, the movie was terrible though. I am finishing up "Oliver Twist" today. Its been a good read.

There are a few "Classics" that I just couldn't get into. Hemmingway for instance. His stories just drug on. A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls....I really didn't care for them. Crime and Punishment (Dostoevsky)was another that seemed to drag on for me. In fact, I took until about the half way point to get interesting as I recall. I will say that perhaps the best classic that I have read would be the Count of Monte Cristo in so far as a story that you don't want to put down. Another couple of good reads (not Classics) were Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth and World without Ends.

In really surprised only one person talks about Louis La'more books. Some of the best western novels ever written. His son writes too but I don't care for his as much.
Now days I just read religious books. The family that overtook Christ is a good book if people are interested in that.
Books on the prophecies of our times are always interesting. Especially when you see these things coming true today.
