I spent the better part of the last week before my shoulder surgery last fall at the deer lease. I was puking blood and so weak I could hardly hunt but I was at it. After the surgery I couldn't even lift the right arm for weeks. I had to hunt out of a blind but I shot left handed with one hand and killed 3 deer that way. Thanx dgilbert for you and Levi's help in hauling and skinning. I couldn't stay at home any longer.
So I'd say somewhere around a 4+.

I'm thinking I need to put in a small golf course next door to our hunting property. But I don't know fiddly squat about golf. Maybe just a practice range instead.

It's really not difficult at all...golf in TX is a year around sport while deer hunting is for me a three month sport. For Golf I drive 10 minutes down the road and for deer hunting I drive 3 hours west. There's so much I could share but since few if any would understand....
One thing I can tell you is that you can find out a lot about a person on the golf course. How he acts there will tell you pretty much exactly who he is away from the golf course.

Deer, I likes me some golf too. Carry a 5-handicap so I obviously spend some time on the course but during hunting season, I get after it pretty good for 3-4 months..

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

No where in the question did I see it limited to deer hunting. The only time I don't hunt is the hottest part of summer and then if we have a cool or wet front come through I will sneak one in. Pigs and exotics make Texas a hunter's heaven. And the way I see it if it's too hot to hunt, I sure as heck ain't playing golf in it.

Depends on the mood I guess. Sometimes I'll be sitting at home with a perfect opportunity to go but won't, other times I'll go even if it's not a great time like Christmas Eve. It was nice and cold sitting out there at 10 PM. Didn't get back home until after midnight but at least brought home a nice Christmas present to myself that night.

Maybe a 1-2. Would like to be a 3-4, but lack of time and a lease currently prevent that. I don’t see that changing anytime soon, given the amount of my time involved with family these days. Funny, my wife has no problem with me taking a full week or more to go scuba diving, but the idea of me being gone hunting for a bunch of weekends drives her nuts. That and the cost of local leases. I just can’t bring myself to pay the kind of money being asked for a good lease within 1-2 hours’ drive.

DQ, I currently have a 2.7 index. I noticed you are in Flower Mound perhaps when I get back to playing in 6 weeks or so you and I should hook up and play a round. Do you play anywhere in particular?

I'm probably only about a 2 now, but then again, I didn't hunt at all for almost 25 years. When I was a kid, I was out every day with either my .22 or .410 raising hell with the squirrels, rabbits, doves, and possums. What we didn't eat, my brother and I sold to our neighbors. I used to go dove hunting and deer hunting with my dad, but after he died, I lost all my connections where I could hunt for free. And between being married with 2 kids and trying to work my way out of debt, spending a bunch of money on a lease just wouldn't fly. So I put all my guns in the closet and just forgot it for a long time. Then about 3 years ago, my boss let me hunt on his ranch and I killed a 7 point buck, and the fever kicked in. I still don't get to deer hunt much, but I bought a public hunting lands license so I can dove hunt, which was always my favorite, anyway. But now, with the kids grown and gone, and a little more disposable income, I'm trying to make up on hunting memories. I took my older son out last year and he shot a doe with my WWI era Mauser, so he's getting hooked early.

I went hunting on my wedding aniversary...matter of fact I always do...it is in deer season. I have never gotten any flack for it. It is another day like any other. Granted it is Dec 31 so everyone celebrates with us anyway. We go out a different day.
Every chance I get I am out hunting or fishing, moving stands building checking traps etc.
I would give myself 4.0

On a scale of 1-5 with one being "a weekend hunt during the season is enough for me" and a 3 being "I hunt a lot but will give up an evening sit to watch the football game" to a 5 being " I missed my sisters/brothers/ kids wedding cause the rut is starting"
I'm probably about a 4. i guess im a 5, missed my first being born drove back to town from the ranch visted the wife and son drove back to the ranch to finish my hunt, mamma brought home a mouth to feed so i was bringing home the food. hehe
