I was up in a ladder blind I had put up and just when I got settle about 4-6 rounds in quick succession flew over my head...I climbed down real fast and sat at the bottom of my stand until I was pretty sure the hunting/shooting was over and I took off and never looked back!

You are correct though, any anything you take on public land is a trophy!
forgive my ignorence, whats the difference between public land & type II confused2

I hunt public land in N. TX and with the size of most of the deer up here I will take 3 or 4 as that is about all the sausage, back strap, and loins I can eat in a year.

I believe what is called public lands today used to be type II several years back.

Guys, do they still designate the land the state leases from timber cos as type II?

Back a few years ago the state wanted to offer more land to the public so they leased land from the timber cos real cheap and offered it to the public I think for $35 a year. Initially it was called Type II. The problem that created was then everyone and their brother knew where this land was and there was nothing to control how many hunters showed up to hunt on it. Before that I hunted the same land...not near as many hunters and it didn't cost me anything other than my hunting license.

Perhaps they have done away with type II designation?

3-5 a year mostly does and spikes unless the right mature buck presents himself which has worked out the last three years. 5 last year 2 bucks (different counties) and 3 does (different counties)

We don't harvest deer!

Wife & I "kill" 2 or 3 in a season though. That's about all we can eat in a year.

I shoot one or two a year myself. Others on our lease my take two or three. We never shoot all we can. We just don't need that much meat. We also shoot and eat hogs. Love to eat the hogs.

We take what our biologists suggests and normally miss that mark by one or two.

I plan on filling my tags when I go to Virginia in November. Where I hunt they allow 6 deer 3 Bucks and 3 does. This will be my second deer hunt and my first was a complete bust so I plan on making up for it. I plan on getting at least one trophy.
