My issue would be the 270 and other 06' variations don't fit a short action which I prefer. In short action it filled the gap very nicely. Although just about any work great on game provided a good bullet is used and the shooter has faith in the equipment.

Judging accuracy by what is used in competition can lead us to wrong conclusions since the competitors take many factors other than accuracy in deciding what caliber they are going to use. Most of is will concede that we cause some degree of inaccuracy ourselves. Flinching is one obvious fault, but holding our breath too long, poor cheek weld, poor trigger technique, and many other flaws in our shooting style affect accuracy. The rest we use can be too hard, we can get the barrel too hot,the load can be wrong for the harmonics of our barrel, all kinds of physical factors can also affect accuracy. It's great that you like the way your 22-250 shoots, but you surely know there are a lot of sweet shooting 7mm-08's out there too.

My bolt actions are as follows;
22-250 for prarie dogs, hogs, bobcats, coyotes
.260 for competition, coyotes, hogs, deer
7 Rem Mag (not finished yet) coyotes, hogs, deer, elk
Small, medium, large
The 7-08 could replace the .260 and the 7 Rem Mag (if I limited the distance) because it is a fine chambering, capable of great things. I've seen too many of them kill and compete with authority.

He aint holding his mouth right whilst shooting a 7-08 No, the reloading dies are out of spec. actually i can get them to shoot some what by reloading them. problem is a 2700 fps accurate load is anemic and disgraceful. I love the idea of the 7-08 but at some point you have to throw in the towel. were done with it.

A 2700fpm 162 amax is hardly anemic.
Most of the time when I hear of something not shooting right I suspect the operator. When 5 rifles of different manufacturers and setups shoot well you can't help but blame the shooter.
I think your doin somethin wrong. Wrong powder/bullet weight. Wrong twist for bullet, Technique... Etc.
You said in your first post you just like small calibers. I do too. Less recoil, less noise, less intimidating all of which generally make them Easier to shoot I really like my 223 bolt gun.

I have several 7-08's, Winchesters, Remmingtons, and a Savage-Stevens 200. Ican tell you all....Twist rate is the key. All 3 of these rifles have different twist in them, and they all shoot differently with different weights of bullets.
The 1 thing I have found common is the 140 grain bullet....it seems to be the heaviest "light" twist bullet, and the lightest "heavy" twist bullet that work well at both ends.
I wish I could give you all a magic number, but the winchester and remington seem to have the best barrels for 120-140. All others kinda swing to far to the slow or the fast side.
