The hunting was terrible this evening. Seen about 8 does right at dark and not a buck one. Try her again in the morning

Things were better this morning. Deer were moving early, passed a really nice 8, but he sure seemed young. I have no problem taking a 4.5 year old if hes a stud, but this deer sure seemed to be 3.5. I had to think twice about it as he walked into the brush. His G-2's had to have been 13" or better. A few little bucks chasing the does. It's still nice and cool with a slight overcast so I'll be on stand all morning, waiting for that late morning cruiser buck

Back on stand. Doesn't feel too promising this evening, too hot. I could be totally wrong but if the past serves me right, rut may happen under darkness for the most part. Forecast doesn't look promising for next week. Looks like I'll have to find a buck that's not totally broken on the wheat fields in December. Not being negative, just call it like I see it. We'll see.....

It's pretty bad when you are begging the wind to blow just to keep the flies off ya. This is rediculous

Ok, the woods lit up at dark. I had several does feeding at each feeder and saw a doe running about 5:45. This trashy thick, grows straight up 7 point is wearing her out, chasing her all over the place. They run into some brush out of my view. About 5 mins later that same doe is gunning it to the feeder, so I look behind and there's the trash buck. Well as he's headed to the feeder for the doe, the big 8 I passed this morning steps out in the open from the west. That was the first stare down I've seen yet. The big 8 swole up and pinned his ears back with his head cocked and the trashy guy didn't want none. I really had to hold back from shooting the 8 again. He's so nice for an 8, pretty tall G2's on this guy, just wish he was heavy and I'd be hanging a deer right now. Anyhow, at this point I've got three other younger bucks that are chasing all the does too. So i'm trying to keep up and I spot a doe running again behind the west feeder and I'm not sure if it was the 8 or another deer. But if it was the 8 then I've screwed up twice not taking him, I just ran out of light and had to put the gun down. Keep in mind this deer is not huge, I'd field judge him at 135. But if he had more mass coupled with his length and spread outside his ears, magnum 8 in my book. Anyhow, the bucks were still grunting and chasing 100 yards from my stand well after dark and had pigs come into my creek feeder right as I got down. Good evening minus the dadgum flies chewing on me. Looking forward to the morning

I'm leaving at noon tomorrow. Will be on stand Saturday morning trying to find a good one for my grandson. I don't care if I get one or not as long as we find him one.

Well I'm thinking the same. My wife was supposed to come down this weekend and hunt and I want her to shoot the 8 but, her grandfather is in the hospital right now and she can't come down. If I can get a better look at this guy I may go ahead and take him and let her shoot her first deer on another place we have in Wheeler Co. It's a lot better setup for beginners at our place there and would be a better experience as far as seeing more deer per sitting. Holler at me Mike, I'll be down here all weekend

This morning was decent. Deer were moving early, seen the big 8 and another smaller 8. Finally got a really good look at the big 8 and I decided I just can't shoot him. Looking for a bigger one. Headed back out to try another spot near MikeC's area. Wish me luck, I need a BBD!
