I don't loan anything to anyone that can't afford to replace it, and I don't borrow anything that I can't afford to replace.

Borrow a rifle? No problem! I have a 6 pound Marlin in 45/70 shooting 350 Hornadys at 1900 FPS. Shoot it all you want!

We have a couple of loaner guns in the family, but other than my brother and father I would never loan out one of my guns.

Only on a very rare occasion. I have a couple of close friends that can borrow anything I have .......with the exception of my woman and my Trans Am.
I was involved in a self defense shooting. Ft worth pd had my pistol for a few weeks and several of my friends offered to let me borrow one of theirs until I got mine back.

Only person I trust with anything like this is my parents or my best friend. I know with any of those 3 it will come back in pristine condition and thoroughly cleaned. Have had people ask and my BIL ask and just can't do it. I'd get too mad if it came back in bad shape or an "accident" happened. If I do it myself that's one thing but can't stand when other people damage my stuff.

I lent out an sks to a 'friend' several years ago(late 90's, maybe 2000, I forget off the top of my head)
If you're from Corsicana, you may remember the "Friendly Store" on South 7 getting shot up one night in a 'drive-by' scenario.
That was my sks, in his hands. It took almost 3 years before I got my sks back from the police department storage room.
Never again.

I only loan out to the most respectful, trusted and considerate of my friends or family. This^^^^

Their my guns. They need a gun they need to supply their own. The only person that get loaned one of my guns is my father or possibly my kids but that is up for debate when they get old enough.

I have loaned my sendero out to dad brother and a couple cousins and one of my best buddies. The family is a non issue. The budy is likely the only one of my friends I would loan guns too.. and his are nicer than mine. I have borrowed his mark V 7mm wby to go varmit hunting(only gun either of us had that given weekend in college and I shot 3 racoons with it from 125 to 200 or so yards) I also borrowed a tractor from him to shred our place before we had ours, but In all fairness my gun or his gun was worth more than the tractor probably.

me personally...absolutely yes, and I routinely do loan my guns to good friends and family. In fact, my brother has my henry golden boy 22 to teach his son to shoot with, and a good friend of mine borrowed my winchester sx3 shotgun this past weekend to go dove hunting. I trust most of my friends and family. My gear is their gear as far as im concerned. If I cant trust my friends to take care of my stuff..then they have no business being my friends. As for scratches...hell that part of owning a gun and using it.

Nope...
I would not do it even for family. If you are not in control of your firearm who knows what it is being used for and by whom...

Yes I loan out my guns, but usually it's family but I have loaned one to a freind. None of my guns are collector or high end rifles and shotguns and are considered tools. I get them back and clean them up and put them away until I are someone else wants to use them. When I'm gone it won't matter where they end up anyway.

Not to hijack this thread, but I don't loan out or let anyone ride either of my ATV's. Such things have a tendency not to work in the same manner once you get them back. That's the truth. Loaned my gun to a "friend"one time, said his house got broken into,I"m not so sure. Never paid me for the loss. We're not friends any longer. As far as 4 wheelers go, I can't tell you how many times my son or his friends have wrecked them. They don't get to ride 'em anymore.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

I've got a buddy who asks every year if he can borrow a rifle. I always tell him no but that it is for sale. Heck, everything is for sale but nothing is to be loaned.

No way I'm loaning a gun to anyone other than two family members I hunt with... "I got a chance to go moose hunting can I borrow your 300wm ?"
I have pretty much learned over the years not to loan anything, IF I loan someone something we are good enough friends that they can HAVE it if they really need it.

When I was 18 I loanded my less than a year old Remington 870 to life long friend's husband. He inturn loanded it to his father who split town and I never seen the gun or the money to replace it. He/they kinda ruined it for any one else. I will let the guys I share a lease with kid's hunt with my rifles if they need too. But, it dont leave lease with any one but me.

im kind of astounded here at the numbers of folks here who dont have friends they trust enough to loan a gun too. im curious (for those who have them) if you would allow these friends to watch your kids for the day, or even a few hours for you?

I have loaned out a few. Mostly to family and very good friends. I did have one come back that had not been dried off immediately, and had some rust on the barrel. Good thing I loaned a cheapo. As long as it is a cheapo, and good friend or family, I will loan. One of my fav's...no way! The only exception would be my Dad. He can borrow any of my guns, any time he needs them.
