Dove hunting all the way. I hunt dove at least 60-65 days of the 75 day season just for my dogs and doves are more challenging.

Why ?

Ducks are an easier and bigger target

If duck hunting were easy then everyone would do it, that's why everybody dove hunts and only a select handful of badasses duck hunt.

Given the choice I would dove hunt 1st and duck hunt 2nd. I just love to powder those gray darts. Those that say only duck hunters are really hunting I say do not be such a winged snob! You are stating to sound like some of those quail hunters that think every other bird is just trash not worth the time to shoot at! Both require scouting to be successful day in and day out. Dove offers the upside of higher numbers to shoot at. Dove do taste much better than duck. To he honest I just find the greatest joy and relaxation in pointing a muzzle of a scatter gun at any winged game bird. Migratory or upland, if it flies it dies.

There you go again Dan! I never seen anyone more ate up with dove hunting than you, but it is a healthy obsession and you sure put a lot of effort into it.

I personally try to do my best to avoid having to choose between one versus the other so I will have to say both.

I love duck hunting but I don't get too distracted by the early teal season so the overlap is not so bad. I try and hit the dove early and often as possible then focus on the deer vs duck seasons.

The act of shooting something is the most basic skill hunters learn. It's the easiest part of any hunt. You can take a 14 year old that doesnt know anything about hunting and he may out shoot people that have been hunting for years. But he is only able to do that because he was placed in a place that has birds.

Dove hunting is what just about anybody with no actual hunting skills can do. Duck hunting on the other hand (unless you are jumping tanks) takes a lot of skill and knowledge to get birds to come in so you can finally take those easy shots.

So I like duck hunting because it's so much more complex...while dove hunting is fairly simple and any noob can be set up in a field and his chances of shooting birds are going to be just as good as anyone else in that field. If you took that same noob to a honey hole and just let him go his chances for success are not as great vs the guy that has been at it for a while.

The nice thing about teal season is you can do both. Shot a double of dove during teal season that got a little close to the mojo.

I thought for every dove taken you get another teal... No?

Man I love dove season but I haven't really gotten the opportunity to hunt ducks. I am getting on a lease this year that is supposed to have great duck hunting so I will let you know how I feel around February.
