Prayers up Ken. I made the same decision after my one and only year on a lease. Ended up meeting a nice person who allows me to cull deer and hogs on his place now. I do pay a fee for the year to stay in the guest house and help with any work they see fit. I am truely blessed to be allowed to hunt on their property, and have made a great friend. My sons and I will have a place to hunt in TX for a long time coming...hunting here is nothing like where I came from though. Still very interesting and fun!

Luckily my father and I have been on the same lease for over 35 years. Most of the people on the lease now are the sons and grandchildren of the original lease holders. I realized how lucky I am when I joined a lease closer to home so I could take the kids on day trips. There is a high density of deer and hogs but it is not worth it because I feel like the kids are losing the feeling of hunting with people that you know. The lease that we have had since before I was born does not have as many deer but it epitomizes the reasons to have a lease. We enjoy the place so much that we have bought land on the outskirts of the leased land. We pay 300 a year. The place close to home is 1200. We have a hell of a lot more fun at the lease w/ few deer but long traditions. You have to decide what's important for you. Happy hunting!

The part I like about the lease is setting around a campfire and enjoying the time spent with brothers in hunting...enjoying the companionship and hearing the stories...seeing the grandkids learning about the wood, hunting and becoming a man. iknow what little things I use to take for granted wil be enjoyed more and the things I use to take for granted will no longer be taken that way. Every morning the good Lord gives to set in a blind and show me his great creation I will enjoy every moment...

I'll turn 70 this year and I know there will come a time that I won't be able to go by my self. My wife thinks it now,but I'm still in pretty good shape and refuse to stop going when I get ready.I really can't afford a lease now, but As long as I can raise the funds I'll be hunting.

This thought has scrossed my mine often and I have went a few years without a lease and it drove me crazy. I am fortunate enough now to have a lease within two hours of the house and have the oppertunity to go to it a lot more than the leases I have had in the past. Hopefully it will not be for a long time but when it is time for what ever reason to leave this one, I am not sure about getting another one. I lvoe being able to go when ever I want and not have to worry about a place to hunt, but like mentioned above, time, work, and cost is a big factor to me.

If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.

I am 51 and gave up my lease 3 yrs ago. My youngest kids had grown to where they couldn't go with me most weekends so it became too much work by myself. I sold most of my stuff and started doing out os state hunts and Texas public hunts. I live in the country and own my own property with excellent duck hunting, so that became my outlet for hunting. I still dont have a lease, and this year I will be bowhunting mule and whitetail deer along with dove, pheasant, duck, and geese in Kansas, deer in Illinois, deer in the TX panhandle, and ducks right here on my property. I don't have time anymore for a lease.

I think I will pay around $900 for my out of state deer permits and licenses.

If you have:
the time, desire/ability to spend the time, the money, and a good lease with good members(means different thngs to different people) that you are or can be a member of that lease ... then the year around lease is a good option. We should all be thankful there are other options.

I guess if you cant afford to have a lease then it is smart not to have one as long as you spend time enjoying the outdoors. As long as you are doing some kinda hunting and realize the good Lord gave you the oppertunity to do then all is good.

Yep going this Saturday to find out "status" for the year. Leased with the owner and long time friend that passed away unexpectedly this year. The other half partner also a good friend never hunts the place or spends time at the ranch. He wants us all (two close friends and five other lease huntes) to stay on board but without management, supervision, care and all things required to maintain the property and hunting I'm afraid it will turn in to a free for all (with the other lease hunters that needed a LOT of supervision!) Think I'm going to pull all my gear down to the cabin will probably have to sit this year out and see if this is going to happen or not. I'm betting it's NOT. I would rather not hunt a lease than hunt a lease thats gone bad (mismanaged). We will see.
