I wasn't there, but I am 99% sure that it wasn't venomous. There are only a few in Texas, and that doesn't look like one of em

Very clever, I meant standing water. You might want to do some research on you own because hognose are mildly venonmous.

Haha, love these threads...

Just so happens I am a herpetologist. That's likely an Eastern (or weird colored western) hognose snake. They are really interesting, they only eat toads and are only venomous to frogs/toads. If you scare them really bad without hurting them they will go through this whole act of dying and stink like hell and flip over. If you hold still long enough they will look to see if you are gone and if you aren't they will start writhing and going through the whole act again!

X2 All the ones that I shot that day kinda looked like rattle snakes without the rattles and were very aggressive. So diamondback water snake sounds good to me, but I am no expert.
