Killed a javelina with a rock once, squirrels with a throwing stick. Doing seismic work in the Louisiana marsh we used to catch nutria, whack 'em with a hammer and trade 'em to the cajuns for sacks of oysters.

I've used those little .177 cal 1000fps+ airguns for a while and used them to kill things in traps. Raccoons, opossums, fox, ect. never had one not make a quick humane kill. Most of the ones I've had penetrate or punch through 1/4 inch plywood or a few layers of tin pretty well. Still a fan of shot placement over knockdown power. And they're the cheapest thing on earth to shoot. Best practice ever for improving your longe range of rifleman skills without breaking the bank

Damn, A lot of haters. Congrats on the cat! That is what I was thinking as I was reading the thread. Congrats on getting the cat your way. Nothing wrong and certainly challenging. Good job.

look up slingbows.. someone used one to kill a bear i believe.
i dont understand the hate either. that rifle isnt a "bb" gun. sure, 800 fps isnt that fast compared to a centerfire, but why hate at all? ive seen a guy hunt big pigs with a .25 airgun. sure, they were ear shots, but they were over 50yards. as in archery, shot placement

They sell slingbows that will shoot arrows at 236 fps. That would kill a hog.

Before I get started, Hello. I'm Bryan, and I'm new to the forum. Now I hope I don't get flamed for my first post. It doesn't take 1,000 fpe to kill a bobcat, or even a hundred, or even fifty for that matter. The main advantage of using pb's (powderburners) is that they shoot flatter, farther. A .22 or .25 caliber high-powered breakbarrel airgun should be plenty of medicine for a bobcat- as long as you don't attempt a shot at ranges beyond where you can put at least 5 shots inside an inch, and aren't being forced to "guess-timate" drop (got a laser range finder?), and you are taking head shots only. Some of the more powerful air rifles are even good for boiler room shots, delivering plenty of energy to stop the heart and/or scramble the lungs. The challenge of airgun hunting is that you are forced to get closer to your prey, so you have to hone your stalking skills a little better- vs. a powder burner, which gives you a lot more range. The ADVANTAGE, however, is that they make much less noise, and there's no scent of burned gunpowder. Huge advantage when you are hunting predators, with keen senses. The sound of a .223 and the smell of gunpowder could end your hunt for the night, by scaring away predators for a pretty good range. Airguns, on the other hand, not so much. Even the most powerful spring airguns don't make any more noise than a suppressed semi-auto .22 lr's bolt slapping back. And you can rock a PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) airgun with an integral suppressor that can't be removed and fitted to a firearm legally and without any special permit. Perfect for pest control and predator hunting on a smaller 1-2 acre piece of property, with neighbors near by (especially at night). In Texas, all non-game species are legal with airguns, including exotics. There are big-bore airguns powerful enough to rip right through the shoulder of an american bison, commonly used on larger exotics and predators as well. It's all about accuracy, penetration, and shot placement. If you hit a coyote in the guts, or sometimes even in the diaphragm and guts, with a .30-30, it'll run off and probably suffer and you might never recover it. Head shot with a .25 Benjamin Marauder on the same animal? Lights out! BTW, great shooting Lane!
EDIT: I just clicked the link to the pics and story. Great shot between the eyes, and that's a nice Disco you got there! Nice looking bobcat, too.

My local sporting goods store now carries the Benjamin Roge .357 airgun. It will drop a hog at over 100 yards.

A man posts a remarkable kill on here and half of you are dissin' it. Can't you just think what you think and keep your mouth shut? This place tries my patience sometimes....
I pellet gun hunted for years and never killed anything bigger than a squirrel. Way to go brother!
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

A pellet gun will certainly kill a pit bull.
Are pellet guns legal for squirrel? I don't believe so.

I dont think so. But I know so many people around here that do hunt them with airguns. I even saw a TV show were they were hunting tree rats in east texas with airguns. I think its a questionable topic, in my county they are leagal year around.

Is it illegal to shoot a pellet gun on under 10 acres? Not in city limits just in a subdivision? Depends upon whether the County Commissioner Court has deemed it lawful or not. Restricted Areas in Counties It is against the law to: •hunt in a subdivision with lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if the commissioners court, by order, prohibits the discharge of a firearm or the use of archery equipment in such subdivisions. (Contact local county clerk and ask about 235.022, Local Government Code.)

That's a pretty weak gun then This just shows how little you understand about air rifles. Most diabolo pellets fly best in the 800-900 fps range. Claims of 1200 fps will do nothing for accuracy. I promise that a supersonic PBA glow in the dark pellet will not only be inaccurate, but it will shed energy so fast that you would only want to use it to impress your friends at the sound and look. Going supersonic is not what diabolo pellets are made for. I can also promise you they are not made to go back transonic either. Alot of firearm bullets aren't good at transsonic Simply put, understand that the poster is using "the" best pellet for hunting (if accurate in his disco), and is shooting it at the best speed for accuracy. Shoot it with a .25 cal 43 grain pellet at nearly 1000 fps Eun Jins from what? Condor, Quakenbush, or Sumatra?
