Would somebody please explain to me why some people(almost all T.V. hunters),will set and look at a buck coming through there hunting area, with binoculars on the deer and not the gun scope. Then so many times, the guy says, yeah, he's a shooter, and by then, the deer is heading into the thicket or brush to not show up again. Now, is it just me or is this just plain stupid. Then he says, "He never really gave me a shot"...REALLY.I could have shot him a dozen times.It just bugs me I guess.If I see a deer that I even think may be a buck, I am looking at him through my scope. Any thoughts on the subject from yall,or is it just me.

ok lets me try to explain this to ya buddy, the people on tv looking at the deer with there binos is for the camera, alot of diffrent scenes are like that. The same thing when they draw back the bow or rifle. just like when they walk up to find the deer and the act like they didnt find it earlier. again its not all the shows, but most just make it out to be a whole every scene hunt.

Lol, you are right for the most part, but I have read on here and several other forums of guys doing this very thing. Just seems a little strange to me.

I admit I do it because with my eyes the view is better with the 10x50 Nikons than my Nikon 3x9 scope and I need to make sure the buck is legal before I shoot. But then I am hunting over feeders and food plots so unless it's the rut and the buck is chasing a doe time isn't a big issue. Even last week when I shot an 8 pointer that was chasign a doe I had the time to watch the doe with the binos, see that a decent buck was chasing her, then grab the gun and (while blowing my grunt call to get him to stop for a sec) shoot. I do admit that while all that went on he did cross the top of the hill I was hunting and wasn't but a few yards from cover when he made the mistake of stopping - but stop he did.

In most cases, if not all, the view from a binocular will be much better than a riflescope. This is especially the case the further the distance between you and the deer. Granted, if the deer is a 50 yards and he comes through the brush and you can tell he is a monster, forget the binos and grab the gun!!

The last thing I want to do is take a deer and wish I hadn't when I get up to him. The view from a good set of binoculars will help prevent this alot more than just the view from the scope.

I’ve give you another reason is that most of those guys have sponsors and get products for free so they are to mention the products they are using; I’m surprised they don’t mention what brand of underwear they are wearing. That is the main reason I HATE all hunting shows, most are they to sell products.

I use binoculars every time I hunt, except for pigs.

The FOV is twice as large if not more compared to looking through a scope.
I can be sure of what is in the back ground as it relates to a safe shot, see if another deer is following, see and assess multiple deer in one view, scan more territory quickly without shouldering my rifle and getting busted from the movement.

Over all I like to use both eyes as opposed to one when making a decision to shoot or not to shoot.
If that costs me a shot at a buck of a lifetime so be it.

You can't take back a bullet after mushing the trigger, I want to take every precaution I can to minimize any mistakes or worse before taking a shot.

It is easy to "edit in" video like that.

i.e. looking through binocs, getting in/out of stand, the shot, walking up on the dead animal(with the camera already there ??)

A long time ago I had the pleasure of looking through my binocs at a guy across the field who was looking to see if someone was in my stand with his rifle scope. He made a quick retreat when I put down my binocs and put my rifle in his "general" direction. It's a safty thing with me.....I haven't ever heard of someone accidentally pulling the trigger on a pair of binoculars.

I stopped watching the hunting shows many years ago when they became more commercials than anything else.

I have a friend who guides on the Perlitz Ranch and has been involved with quite a few of those shows. All of those camara angles and looking through binocs are staged either before or after the shot. We're not seeing what actually goes on.

Like was stated above...I've looked at 9 different bucks on our family place so far this year and have never pulled up the rifle.My stand affords a pretty good view of deer coming or going,plus you really need to size a deer up with ARs in place.East Texas things are a little bit different,you may have only a few seconds to size one up.We don't have that problem where we are.My Nikon Binos are a lot more comfortable to look through than my scope.

Yes but then they added hot women...I mean, ok does it make me a bad man just because I want to see Tiffany Lakosky in the woods? And that episode she did with the archery fishing - I have never owned a bow, don't really care to take it up. But I do believe I'd like to go bow fishing for alligator gar with her and her bikini...

On the other hand, I was always taught to use binos for spotting instead of your scope. If you are trying to pick some movement out of heavy cover or for whatever reason you cant clearly make out what you are looking at with the naked eye, the last thing you want to do is raise your' gun to look through the scope to see another person from your' lease, or whatever the case may be,
in the crosshairs of your' scope. How would you react if you saw someone in the woods pointing a gun at you ? You dont know their intentions.
