Some of you people on here crack me up! it is easy to poke fun at the guy spending 25K to shoot a 300" white tail when you are broke but dont tell me that if the cash didnt matter you would be there shooting away just to have a story to tell. I can tell you for sure I wouldn't be there shooting those bucks. Nothing wrong with it, and I support that they do it, but it isn't my thing. I don't mind a high fence, assuming the land has sufficient cover, but I really don't like the idea of shooting a released buck. The fun for me is starting from the beginning. Setting up feeders, locating a stand, putting in the sweat.

That guy must be the best, most skilled hunter in the state. Incredible bucks. I'd love to pick his brain and learn from his wisdom.
Truly a master of his universe. Amazing.

If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

Just cause he's got money and shot a 300" doesn't make him less of a hunter. For all you know he's prolly killed low fence deer all his life and hard work has led to wealth which in turn led to the quest for bigger deer. For those of you that think your the best hunter cause you would kill a 120" 8 point over this deer you are full of chit. If that deer walked out any of us would drop the hammer. Quit kidding yourself cause your not fooling anyone. Hunting is hunting and as long as it's legal we as a group should support and quit bickering amongst each other.

I love to hunt big deer in south texas under a high fence. there is quite a bit of difference in shooting a buck that was raised under a high fence and shooting one that was released from a pen. one of my neighbors has a breeding operation, they let go a few bucks every year, all wearing yellow tags. you won't believe the number of yellow tag bucks I see within a 400 yard radius of the pens. they never leave the area. I can count on one hand the number I've seen in one year on other areas of the ranch. imo, shooting a pen raised deer and bragging about it is the equivlent of going to a brothel, paying top dollar for the hottest girl then bragging to everyone about how much of a stud you are.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I shot a deer this year on a high fence ranch. It's a deer that I would never see on my lease. I have been wanting to book a hunt like that for years. I would never post a picture of it on here just because I don't want to hear everyones riduculous comments. I read an article some time back that surveyed hunters abouth their thoughts on high fence hunting. If I remember right, the results were that 85% of those polled said that they would hunt a high fence ranch if given the chance.

I do take a lot of pictures. I also love to shoot bucks. I don't really care what other people do. More power to them if they enjoy shooting those deer. To me, it's like someone baited your hook, threw out your line, set the hook, and then handed you the pole to reel it in. I like to start from the beginning. Shooting the buck is the payoff.

I don't find them attractive at all, I'd rather shoot a chocolate horned typical ten that scores 160 than one of those triple beam, white horn deer that looked like it came from a farm in iowa. I don't figure I'll see either where I hunt so if I'm going to wish for a miracle, I'm wishing for a 300" miracle over a 160" miracle. Neither are going to happen so I might as well go big. I agree with all here !!!! my neighbor has a bunch of 200 class breeder pen bucks running around on his ranch. if one jumps the fence into my place i'd shoot it just to keep from breeding. Nice.

HOLY COW!
I am guessing $100k to kill 2 bucks that big.
Robert Williams is the GODFATHER of the deer business and we owe him for the genetics we see today. I don't see them on my lease, so I don't guess I owe him!
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Is anyone familiar with this particular place? It would be interesting to hear the story of the hunt and the cost. I don't have any judgements one way or the other but since so many assumptions have been made, it would be interesting to hear the real deal.

True, I wouldn't turn it down if it walked infront of my feeder! However, theres no way- whether I had the money or not, that I would pay to shoot a deer like that. And yes, I would be prouder of shooting a 120 8pt after spending the time to find a lease, put up a feeder, building a stand, cameras, filling feeders, planting a small food plot, refilling feeders and sitting in a stand opening morning. Yes, I would do all that rather thank drop some major $$$$ and have someone take me out, put me in a stand, tell me which deer my major $$$ just bought AND most likely gut it for me.... thats not my idea of hunting. And yes, hunting is hunting..... and one is alot more fun!

There are two guys on our lease that have been on for 10 years. This year they will be getting off and doing trophy hunts. I think its safe to say that after being on a lease for many years you get the urge to want to take a trophy deer. Me personally, I would not want to shoot a trophy deer like that just yet. What would I have to look forward to? But I won't rule out the fact that someday I will want to spend the dollars to take out a trophy deer on a high fence operation. It's all about personal preference vs. who is the better hunter.

First, congratulations to the hunter that shot the 2 enormous deer.
Now my 2 cents.
I would rather buy property in South Texas for white tails, buy cheap property in West Texas for Mulies, go hunt Elk in Colorado, Moose and Bear in the Wilds of Alaska, rent a fancy lease for me and my best friends to hunt on in South Texas (to shoot a free range B&C) then pay to hunt those High Fence deer.
I would allocate my funds differently. Just my .02 and good luck to everyone this year. Be safe.

Before people respond, please be clear I would shoot both of those deer if I had the chance, but it would not be my first choice, at at 28, those deer are more like icing on the cake. I wouldn't have anything to look forward too.
Just wondering?? What's the ruling if one of those deer gets out and you shoot it in a low fence area. Is it submisable to the record books?

Those two guy's look like gangbangers. Notice the almost flat bill, lack of the most expensive camo and not a "realtor" sign in sight.

I have to chime in.First of all congratulations to the hunter who shot those AWESOME deer. It's certainly not for everyone, but for those that have the means,if that's what they want to do with their time and money,I say party-on.I am content to shoot smaller free range deer, and thats OK too.My neighbors raise deer that reach 400" and I can see their offspring from my front porch. They own 4M whitetail ranch on the other side of the valley, great bunch of folks,They're doing what they love and have found a way to make a living at it.Kudos to them.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

I made the first statement because i have no use for a buck like that breeding on my place. Has nothing to do with money. If money was no object I would hunt in mexico, british columbia, africa and for whitetail I would grow my own on my own place. If I were to buy a hunt I would do it on the chapparosa, the high lonesome, the charco marano or a slew of other ranches. Shooting a deer that was raised in a pen then turned out to be shot dosen't do it for me. has nothing to do with money. hell, with what we spend in protein we could shoot one of these deer every year.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
