Have any of you guys that are saying pit bulls ever even seen one in real life? Any big dog is just as capable of killing a deer, and for the record pits have better temperaments most of the so-called "family dogs". Maybe you should actually look into an animal before acting like you know something.
And it was a big cat.

yeah because you see a Lab that mauled a little kid in the news all the time... Why the hell are so many people talking about Collin County? That is 100 miles from Mineral Wells. I wouldn't trust the sightings in Collin County anyway, the "tigers" running loose in Dallas a couple years ago turn out to be bobcats, just sayin.

most likely a dog If you actually read the story it was killed by the throat then the animal returned hours later to try and pull it through the fence and I guess decided to go ahead and eat it. There was also not a lot to bury it with in a St. Augustine yard. One of the guys that works at the state park supposedly saw a cub at the gate a few weeks ago when he went to open up for the day. It is apparently not that uncommon for the employees there to see them in the back of the park where it is off limits to the public after talking to some guys around town.

One would just have to look into the history of a pitbull to realize that human aggression was not a trait tolerated by breeders. These dogs were bred to fight in a small pit and were handled not by there owners but often times by people they did not know. Are Pit bulls Animal aggressive? Yes but hardly human aggressive.

I had a great dane/american bulldog mix that chased down, caught,a and ate a full grown doe once. She never chased a deer again. I guess she felt the accomplishment after 1 time around.

As an absolute number, yes. But that's because there are way, way more labs out there.
As a percentage of the population of the respective breeds, a pit is close to 40 times as likely to maul a human.

that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard. if you actually did some research and looked at real statistics you'll see their no more likely to bite than any other dog.

google search results
"pitbull attack" 18,800,000 results
"labrador attack" 5,210,000 results
"golden retriever attack" 2,200,000 results
"rottweiler attack" 2,810,000 results
"doberman attack" 7,320,000 results
not scientific by any means, but over double the results of any other breed I checked.
Now search google images for "pitbull attack" and see what you come up with. I would prolly get the ban hammer if I posted the pics here.

there's no way to tell how many of those pit bull attacks were really pit bulls because like i just said most people dont know one if they see one so they think any mean looking dog is a pit bull,

that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard. if you actually did some research and looked at real statistics you'll see their no more likely to bite than any other dog. That's what a friend of mine used to say about her 16 year old Pit Bull that she raised from a pup. The dog slept in the bed with her until it chewed her face off. Get real. If you think Pit Bulls are as predictable as other breeds you're in denial. And when a Pit Bull does bite he does not stop like most other breeds... Been 3 kids under 10 years old killed in the past year by Pit Bulls where I live. If I saw one near my house it would get shot on sight.

So now that this thread has been hijacked and became a pi$$ing contest about pitbulls, I'd say set up a game camera. Rule out the pitbulls, labs, chupas, black panthers, lions or whatever did it. For what its worth, my vote is for bobcat.

My neighbor said that he heard something that sounded like a woman scream at 12:30 am last night and came out to find the deer dead on his back patio but no blood and certainly not ripped open and the throat mangled. How did nobody point this out. Ive always heard the tale tale noise of a bobcat is it sounds like a woman creaming. A mountain lion sounds like a man screaming. I have heard firsthand a mountain lion do the man scream. Its down right horrific. Josh

My vote would be bobcat except for the scat on the green, That sounds more like dogs and do not under estimate what a dog can do for killing critters.
I doubt this was from a mountian Lion although unlike some I know they exist in Texas unlike some on here, I have seen 1 in Texas but had no camera with me. There was one killed in Eastland county that a full body mount was done on and it was in the pawnshop in Eastland for years.
Could have been bobcat but like other cats they like to bury their crap, but the neck bites and eating does sound like a cat in a hurry. Bodcats can ger to over 40lbs and a 30lb cat would have no problem taking down a deer that size. Not sure the size of the dog but after eating the some of the deer I doubt one bobcat would eat that much of a dog unless it was a tiny one.
I would say a couple ferel dogs or bobcat.
Put some meat out and a camera on it and see what if anything shows up for it.
I doubt you will get any pics or interest from a Mountian Lion if the meat is not fresh, During hot weather they usually make a kill for every meal. during cold weather they might only make a kill once a week or so on Deer size animals. There was a documented case of a 75lb female mountian lion going the winter in the Jackson Hole WY area on 3 kills, all 3 were mature bull elk
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

This isn't a topic of pitbulls so stop talkin about that. We are talking about what killed a deer in an unusual manner. Not what dog attacks people more often. Sorry for the butt hurt guys but stay on topic.
Just doing it for fun now.
