I feed blue buffalo and my dog is great and healthy. Just because it doesn't work for your dog doesn't mean it has cyanide in it...and just because your vet says so doesn't mean half of the people's vets in here disagree. If you read above a good deal of owners feed Blue Buffalo and have solid results. If you can't say whats wrong with it don't start fires

All 4 of our labs get Nutro. I pick it up at Tractor Supply. Definitely some good stuff.

I feed my dogs and my litters Purina Pro Plan. They have great coats soft stool and plenty of energy.
I have looked at several dog food rating charts and everyone says something different so I don't go by that. I let my dog tell me if its good for them or not.

I feed BB Duck formula dry 2x per day. I also give my dog water so I cant believe my dog is dehydrated.
If that vet in the video is right then dogs would be dropping off like the plague. You can pay anybody enough to say anything, look at infomercials. Videos like that are like every other Michael Moore video. They have a lot of good info but have a heavy agenda that makes it look like a sales pitch.

All Im saying is that my dog got real sick on the blue buffalo and he never gets sick. His allergies were also out of controll and he has never been affected by allergies till then. When I took him to the vet he asked, what am I feeding my dog. I said blue buffalo. He said "No, no, no, don't feed him that, its by far the worst food on the market. I'v had many dogs come in with all sorts of illnesses and it has all come back to blue buffalo food. Sometimes there is a good bag or two in there but most of it is bad. Smart people have done their research and picked that food because its a smart choice according to the ingreedience but for whatever reason, its not good. I have seen several dogs allmost die that were taking it."
He said he should actually write them a thank you letter because that food has made him rich because of all the treatments he has had to do as a result of it.
My vet has never been wrong before so I'm taking his word for it.

I would think as with anything else it would depend on the dog. Allergies or a sensitive stomach may rule out certain dog foods. Each dog can have a different sensitivity. If your dog falls into this category you may have to try different ones til you find the right fit. Most will go with a food that has no soy, wheat or corn. If your dog has a problem with any products made with cows milk, there is a good chance he will have a problem with beef products. Some switch to grain free lamb and if that doesn't work they go to a Duck and Sweet Potato.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I'll jump in here. I'd never been an advocate for buying anything other than whatever is on sale to feed my dog. I was under the impression that all dog food was the same and the more marketing a company did , the more expensive their food was. Right? Then my girlfriends little dog that is our inside dog started losing hair from scratching, sneezing all the time, and just being miserable from allergies. He has had them all his life and usually a steroid injection every 6-8 months would clear him up. Over time the injections were needed more frequently to keep him going. I got sick of going to the vet all the time to get him a shot or some medicated shampoo or pills or whatever else they could sell me to fix this problem.
I did a bunch of research and became the foremost expert I knew about dog allergies and skin conditions and I decided to try different dog foods with the little dog. I switched him over to Blue Buffalo and he liked it and so did I. It was a little more expensive than the bargain food but man the money I save in vet bills more than justifies the extra expense. His hair is thicker and fuller than it has ever been and we haven't had any allergy issues in a year. He is more active than I have ever seen and in the best health he has been in since I have known the pup. He just turned 8 last week.
So when I got my first hunting dog, a yellow lab, a couple months ago I started him on Blue Buffalo Large Breed Puppy. He is 19 weeks old now retrieving like a mad man, growing like crazy, and already over 50 pounds. Every time I take him to the vet for his booster shots the vet is amazed how good he looks and acts. I've come a long way in short time with my dog food beliefs. I normally don't comment on a lot of things on THF but this is one I really like.

My vet has never been wrong before so I'm taking his word for it. Did some google, seems they did a recall in 2007 and one in 2010, voluntary.. I did not find info on the 2007 recall (I didn’t look that hard though), but the 2010 recall, there were 36 dogs reported that had excess amount of vitamin D, below is info on that... http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-recall/blue-buffalo-dog-food-recall/http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm228986.htmhttp://www.carolonpets.com/blog/blue-buffalo-dog-food-recall/Reviews give it top ratings... http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/blue-buffalo-dog-food-wilderness-dry/

For what it is worth, my major at A&M was biomedical science which is in the school of veterinary medicine. I had courses in both human and animal nutrition. I thought I knew what was the best to be feeding my lab and have had her on Natures Variety (rotated lamb, beef, salmon and venison)for years. The food gets top ratings: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/natures-variety-instinct-dog-food-dry/It about $60 for a 30lb bag for a has all the right ingredients and really is quality food, however, she recently developed some urinary issues. My vet says that she has high crystalline levels in her urine which he links to her food. It just goes to show you, no one food is right for all dogs and just because a food is made of quality ingredients does not mean that it is incapable of causing health issues. I don't blame the manufacturer and one should be cautious in saying foods like Natures Variety or Blue Buffalo are killing dogs. That being said there is plenty of crap food out there that could....so buy one of the quality foods and monitor your dog for changes good or bad. To each their own, now Daisy is on a prescription diet. Between that and her two knee surgeries, I think she is trying to bankrupt me.
Advice is free, the right answer will cost plenty

I did a lot of research on the topic because I wanted to make sure that my dog was on the best stuff - Duke has been on ProPlan for his entire life, but it always ranks poorly in the dog food reviews. I was about to switch him until I talked with my vet - he told me that because Duke has never struggled with allergies or stomach issues I would be foolish to switch his food - made sense to me so we have stuck with ProPlan - adult blend in off-season and performance blend from July-Feb!

http://www.eukanuba.com/en-US/index.jspx?gclid=COX658iv1qoCFeILtAodpBru6AEukanuba I live in Houston and it is always hot and humid. I feed the same fat-protein all year round. I can train longer in this heat then any other dog food without the dog getting too hot. My dogs coats are always shinny and healthy. I have used all the major brands and this brand has to be the best. You can always find coupons on line if you are worried about the cost.

Lots of differing opinions but you will do well with the Eukanuba that was already sugested, you can pick it up at any Petsmart or Petco.
Work your dog daily and feet this stuff and you won't belive how good your dog will look and perform. Awesome stuff.

Pro Plan Performance...been in the purina pro club and feeding it for the past 10 years. Fed it when I used to train dogs as well. Dogs have great energy, good coat and never ran into any digestive problems with. Lots of other good alternatives as well though. Eukanuba, royal canine and diamond among some, just stay away from Ol'Roy lol

I feed Purina One to my dog. I used to think all food was the same untill I did some research one day and found out thaat he needed a better food. I started feeding Purina and the next time I took him to the vet, the vet said that there was a noticable difference.

Does anyone feed Tractor Supply's 4Health Performance dog food? It received 4 out of 5 stars on the dog food analysis. Looks to be a descent food at a reasonable price. I've been feeding Diamond Hi-energy and after some research this morning learned that it is only rated as a 1 star dog food. I've never had trouble with it, but the extremely low rating is cause for concern.
