Thinking of changing Heisman's food. Hit me up with some brands. He's been scratching a lot lately and doesnt have fleas or anything, thinking it might have something to do with his food.
Thanks for the help.

Seems to me my vet said something about some lab's having a skin disorder. Might have him checked the next visit. I use Nutro also. And YES, the dog is worth it.

I like that link jaymz. I feed my dog kirkland brand kibble, which received 4 out of 5 stars on the website above. He does well on it. He has a shiny coat, defined muscles, and lots of energy. The main concern, voiced most loudly by my wife is my dogs flatulence, which may be related to the food....or maybe he just takes after daddy.

I was using Purina Puppy Chow, but Iron Spike turned me on to Diamond Puppy Food, I definitely see a difference in my dogs energy level and her coat and it actually cost less than the Purina food....

Diamond Adult Lamb and Rice. Has no corn, wheat, or soy (I believe it is) which is supposed to contribute to dog allergies. You can get it at some feed stores and Tractor Supply.

Really is great dog food isn't it? The last purina we were feeding was the top Purina, Pro Plan I think it's called and we thought it might have been something was making my Vizsla sick sometimes. Changed to Blue Buffalo after reading reviews on that site or one like it. After the switch, no more sickness, and we realized what we thought was just my dog getting older that year, was a food problem. More energy, better coat, easier to clean the yard. Seriously, it was a big deal. We have since switched from the regular Blue to Wilderness. The purina was not a problem when she was younger so it may have been a metabolism change with different needs in food, and/or a change in the ingredients Purina was using. But we are sold on the Blue Buffalo Wilderness.

I dislike this topic but I'm buying in. I fed Royal Canin, it was a good food but my dog developed a very mild vomiting problem and never ate like she should. I now feed Blue Buffalo Wilderness and I have seen a positive change. But keep in mind all dogs are different. The thing that matters is if your dog is healthy and performs well. I grew up with a german shepherd that stayed outside 24/7 and was fed the budget dog food and she lived almost 15 years and was a very healthy dog. There are ingredients to stay away from but remember when people say Purina is in it for the $$, so is everyone else. The one thing big companies have are the financial resources to pay for good research into what they sell. Just my $.02

We feed Sportmix Energy Plus at our kennel. Our puppies get Sportmix puppy. I really like Loyall and ProPlan Performance just a little more expensive than I like.

Lots of good dog food and even more bad food. I feed Taste of the Wild...the yellow bag has high fat/protein but the rest of them are the same. It is getting to be pretty expensive though at right at $50 for 30lbs. As long as she keeps going to get the ducks I'll keep buying good food

man I've been feeding my dog Purina One because thats what the breeder told me he feed his working dogs, that crap got a 1 star, pretty much the same as Ol' Roy, I've should have been buying wal-mart kibble this whole time, he's had some throw up issues before too, after reading all this I think I'm going to try that Blue Buffalo Winderness everyone is chatting about...

Nowadays, it's truly hard to find a BAD dog food, and our canine buddies almost universally eat better than we do. Think of what you ate yesterday, and how many stars would be awarded to your diet. Well, let's see.... Five cups of coffee (or an energy drink) and a Honey Bun or a Pop Tart for breakfast. Four Allsups Beef and Bean Burritos, a bag of Cheetos, and a 32 oz Dr Pepper for lunch. For supper, you ordered a Meat Market pizza with extra cheese. And another Dr. Pepper of course. Then, while watching the Rangers on TV, you drank 3 Shiners and snacked on venison summer sausage with some sharp cheddar on Wheat Thins. Finally, after the pitching blew another save, you scarfed down two Little Debbies before bedtime. So how many stars for that bit of nutrition? It wouldn't even rate zero....I'd give it a negative-two. Here's the take-home.... If your dog is doing well on its current diet, don't change it willy-nilly. He IS eating better than you.
I was hoarding when hoarding wasn't cool.

Pro plan shredded for me...
Key to feeding any lab is keeping the strict feeding amount allocated for the wieght of your dog.
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, b/c they know not victory nor defeat"- #26 TR

I use Blue Buffalo Wilderness.
We switched our Lab over to this food as well. His fart's were so bad it literally melted paint and blew nails out of our sheetrock. Since he's been on this food, the yard is easier to clean up and I no longer run out of the house screaming.
He is your friend defender your dog. Be worthy of such devotion
