Been bite before. I wear them. I've killed alot of Rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths this time of season. Some of them in plan clean spaces.

No rattlers in our fields for the most part , cattle & wild hogs grazing keeps the to a minimum

I only ask, as Dave Speer and I were walking around lake x last year, and I wish I would have had them on.

No I didn't see anything, but as we were walking through some brush I heard what I thought was a rattle. Dang near craped myself as I had lifted my foot and heard the sound. I stopped in mid air and was trying to figure out if I could put my foot down. As I looked down, I reliezed what had made the sound. Some weed with a seed in some sort of hull. My leg brushed it when I lifted it to take that next step, which caused the rattle.

I'd be lying to say my heart didn't skip a beat. Well, anyway I think I'm going to invest in a pair this year.

I stopped by Academy during lunch and bought me a pair. My hunting Buddy was hit on the ankle back in June in a pair of flip flops airing up the tires on his RV at the deer lease in Clay County. Big freakin rattlesnake crawled out from under the old barn and nailed him. Good thing he was only 40 mins from the hospital at Bowie, else he might not be here. Notice the width of the puncture wounds and the dark stuff is blood still dripping from them.

NOPE... I was taught to "watch out for snakes" I'm usually wearing reg ole huntin boots AND I have a shotgun with me.

What's to worry about?

Besides, I've seen every snake I ever saw.

I had that philosophy too.. Till I started guiding South Texas and heard of people getting bit by snakes that do not rattle or ones you do not see. Its too late once you do get bit, I would rather have spent a couple hundred dollars on snake boots then spending time in the hospital because of stupidity..

Just got some chippewas myself and will serve as my primary boot year 'round. Yes, they are hot but no big deal.

Wear them every time. Not worth taking the chance...especially with my little one on the way. I've got people in my life that I want to make sure I come back for.

I did the same thing this year. I figure the cost of boots is good insurance compared to hospital bills if a silent one got me.

On the chaps, how do you keep them from biting a foot in a shoe? Or is leather enough to stop a fang?
