Gents Im wanting a 45 for some bullseye comps here locally. Dont have much of a budget to spend so Ill beed some good bang for my buck. Im thinking ill have 500-600 to spend on one pretty soon. Let me know what you guys think would be a good buy, and I am not opposed to used but it better be like brand new used as I dont want any scratches or dings on my guns. Thanks in advance for the help!!

Springfield all the way. Once in awhile you'll find an accurate Rock River but it's now all the time. Don't get me wrong they're decent guns but, IMO, Springfield are much better.
Forgot to mention Taurus. It's an option. It's a really good option too since they're doing so much to them at the factory. In fact Taurus is my first recommendation now that I think on it for a few.

That Springfield GI in OD Green is beautiful!! Thats the one I really want now, it looks old school just the way a 1911 should in my opinion! Thanks for the lead guys, thats the gun Im after now!! Know anywhere that sells them for a good price, I think they come with a holster and a two mag holder and case too, with just one mag though, Ill have to find a few more mags if I get one soon. Thanks for the help and now Ive asked for me, help me find a deal, lol Danny

I would look real hard at the Taurus 1911s. I have one and love it. Easy on the pocketbook but they have a boat load of features. You can also buy normal 1911 parts or add ons as your budget will allow.

I love my Para GI expert, also hear STI Spartan has a reasonable price, also Taurus PT1911, all in the $600 range or so.

In that range I'd look at the Taurus, STI Spartan, Rock Island Tactical, and the American Classic 1911 that Bersa is importing.

I picked up my GI a few months back at the market hall gun show. It was $500 and brand new. There's a show there in a couple of weeks so you might go there and see if you can find one. I had to do some looking since only a few dealers had them at the time. Most were asking $550 but lucked out and found a small dealer that had a better price. I've seen that dealer at the shows since then and he has good prices on most of what he sells. Wish I had grabbed a business card.

can you guys tell me why the Para or the Rock Island over the springfield??? I dont know much about pistolas and could use some education. Thanks, also Im not into Glocks but if you want to explain why you think I need a glock 21 then feel free to do so but Ill most likely stick to a 1911 if at all possible as I like the more traditional look and the history behind them is cool too. Thanks Dano

First off, Happy Birthday
I have shot the RIA, Para and Sprinfield. The RIA felt the best in my hand.
You may have a different view/feel. See if you can rent pistols to see which one fits you the best.

the para and rock island are both entry level 1911's, they save you money that you can use on ammo for practice or doing your own modding. the springfields are a little bit more but are usually more than just a standard 1911 out of the box. i like doing my own work so i like the ria. plus it leaves me enough money to break the gun in and see what i would change myself.
