I've never had this problem. My wife grew up around hunting, but doesn't go. I'm a spur of the moment kinda guy. Sometimes I'll tell her I'm going hunting as I'm walking out. She's never said a word about it, when I'm home I do spend quite a bit of time with her and my son, so maybe that's why.

She had to if she wanted to stay around. I love it my Mamaw she told my wife around ten years ago she better be happy I am hunting deer and not girls. She told my wife, that is what guys do and that she needs to be a wife and stay out of my way when it comes to hunting. I love my Mamaw. Now she tells my wife that the woman’s place is in the house and when I get up she should have breakfast ready and my coffee in a cup waiting for me. She should make me lunch every day to take to work and when I get home everything in the house should be clean and dinner ready when I walk in the door. Go Mamaw and no my wife does not do all that. I love my wife she does let me go hunting anytime I want to with no problems at all. If anyone needs to use my Mamaw to talk to your wife just let me know she would in a second.

Mine has tried complaining about hunting stuff too. But i remind her that I did hunt a LOT as a bachelor, and never looked at getting into a relationship as a substitute for for hunting. Granted, I do not hunt nearly as much now as I did back then. But she's not the only reason. Work, kid, etc, etc,...
But mine doesn't really give me much grief about it. And she knows it's only a matter of a couple of years before the kid will be going with me too.
One thing happened last winter that really helped out in the money spent aspect of my outdoor activities. We lost power in the snow storm for a few days. I went and got a battery from the boat and hooked up my submersible fishing lights, so we had light. I went and got the indoor safe propane heater, so we had heat in one room of the house. I went and got another battery out of the boat and hooked up the inverter, so for a while we had DSL and pc's to pass the time. Then I moved the bat and inverter to the bedroom where I hooked up the TV and satellite box, and we had tv. We woke up the next am and she was depressed about not having coffee. So i went and got the propane burner and percolator, and made her some coffee. Later that afternoon i got the big inverter out, connected it to the truck, and used the dual bank charger to refresh the batt's for another night w/o power. She was truly impressed that we made it through the whole deal in relative comfort, adn even relayed that fact to her friends after the whole ordeal, along with the thought that she no longer resented the amount of money I spend on essential gear.

I work offshore on a 5 week on/5 week off schedule!!! She has no desire to go hunting or most of the time go fishing so I compromise!!! I have my lease 20mi from home so I go in the morning come home and do some of the "honey-do" list and back in afternoon!!! We also have lake front property on a private lake and are in the process of building a house on it so fishing is taken care of!!!

Uh Hum. I don't seem to have that problem. But, mine solved it by taking me along and now, I've drug him hunting about 200 days a year so far, for the past 12 years, mostly chasing hogs and yotes. He wishes sometimes, he would have never introduced me to hunting so he can rest. But truth be told, it was the best thing that coulda happened to us. We are truly best friends and put each others lives in the others hands regularly and we always have adventures to talk about together and plans to make for future adventures. It opened a lot of doors to travel the world as a hunting team. We've had so much fun and been so lucky.

That is freaking funny KellyAsh. I dont ask my wife i tell her and that was her idea 18 years ago. That way she does not think she has an option. I say I'm going and she decides if she wants to go or not. She dont tell me how to live my life and and i dont tell her.
I told my first wife dont make me choose and well she gone.
I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

My wife hunts as much as I do. She usually has us packed before I get home. She takes care of the house and travel trailer I keep her feeder filled and blind warm and everything in camp working. The only complaining I hear is when season is over. Plus helps pass the time after dark.

I have a wonderful wife, she's the one who found the place we bought, she purchased the rhino, binoculars, told me I needed a tractor, bought what she calls "golf cart on steroids" cause the 4 wheeler was too loud. She expects me to go to the place every weekend and sometimes during the week. It dosent get any better than that.

I used to hunt every single weekend. Then we had kids. I have sports going on now so I have to give a little. I make it work. If you have nothing to do and they still complain then sorry!

I told my first wife dont make me choose and well she gone. LOL, I used to use the old standby, "I was looking for a woman when I met you and I can keep on looking...your choice." Then one night, amid all her incessant whining over asinine things, I decided I really didn't enjoy her enough to put up with any more b!tch logic, and all the other BS that comes with most women, and I've been happily single ever since.

All of this thread has some great advice. I've had this fight for 30 years. It ain't never gonna change no matter what I do. I just take the beatin' and take what time I can get away with.

It's all about compromise. If I told my wife that she could take a hike if she didn't like my hunting she would assume the same attitude toward me for all the things she does. That's a ridiculous way to life with someone. She's a strong willed southern county woman, not a "yes sir", painted nails girly that's been "properly trained". She's a wonderful woman, wife and mother. She also happens to like hunting and fishing as much as I do. When I tell her I'm going I've already looked at the calendar and know there's nothing going on that weekend.

I'm always more than happy to give Bill a big shove out the front door, when he wants to hunt. Likewise, he does the same for me.

Take the kids with me (or at least one or two of them) and she's happy. I like having the kids with me almost all the time anyway, so it's all good.

My wife is very supportive, but every once in a while a comment creeps in. That's when I start to bring up the size & dimensions of her jewelry armoire. It's like magic. All of a sudden the Golden Hall Pass appears and everything is right again.
