I can say that I heard reports that birds were as thick as mosquitos around Joe's Lake.

Yea pm Brett, he used to guide for comerants and coots out in your area. if your lucky he may get you on some spoony kickers too.

So can someone explain the rules here? If we aren't supposed to name these places. Is that all to take place in the PM system among people who want to share information?

its not against any written rule to name a public lake or hunting area, but on most waterfowl boards it is certainty frowned upon. Take a look at the link below, I think it does a good job of explaining why and why not

interestingly yesterday i had lunch at the Chamber of Commerce with a park ranger at the WMA in question and had a good talk with him about what was acceptable and good places to go on our local lakes. Also gave me some good duck spots for the future.
