My first buck was a small 4 point. I think you may have ruined her starting with a deer like that. clap

This deer came off our place in Palo Pinto county. I killed it 2 seasons ago during the rut.

Well they are there for a reason sorry its for the masses like you cant drive over 70. High fences probably started because of neighbors who just dont care. Back off high fences in general. If you get enough acres behind a high fence please tell me the difference

well, even if its 5k acres most ranchers know the bucks how old they are, what they score, and how old they are. How is it diffrent one might ask, ok low fence hunter see a huge buck dosent get a shot never sees him for the rest of his life. High fence hunter sees a big buck never gets a shot, doesnt worry much since he isnt going outside the 5k acres. Most high fenced ranches know where the almost each one of there deer in their herd.
High fence hunters = lazy man/woman with money who wants a big buck guaranted.

I have no problem with high fences, but dont try to say there the say as low fences. Buck travel miles when in the rut. nothing to stop them unless there pinned up in a high fence.

If someone has the money to hunt high fences, go for it. I personaly enjoy the outdoors, the trophy bucks are just a bonus.

It is very obvious by your post that you've not had much, if any experience hunting 'true' high fenced ranches! Sorry, but even on 1,000 acres of fenced country you will not know every deer like your dogs in the backyard, especially if the place is thick! Furthermore, I know of several ranches that are 4,000 acres plus where they know their deer every bit as good as the high fenced places I know. Some of these low fenced operations have more deer per acre then the HF ones do as well as a higher buck to doe ratio. I know of 3 different low fenced places that I can take you on a 2 hour hunt and you would have opportunity at multiple 160"+ bucks in one sitting so is that still more challenging then hunting in a HF 1,000 acre place in your mind? I also know where a 180" deer walks into camp and eats within 50 yards of people drinking beer on the veranda! All I'm trying to say is do not group HF hunting into one pile and LF hunting into another because there are completely different situations for each one!!!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Well said. I wish the moderators could program the site so that your post would automatically be the second post to any new thread that has "High Fence" in the title.

To lump all high fence ranches together in one group and all LF ranches together in another, makes about much sense as saying all tall women are ugly and all short women are beautiful.

High fences are simply one tool that can be used to manage property. Like other tools, they can be used or misused.

Scarcity of Boone and Crockett inches is not a factor in a more "fair" hunt... better management and more nutrition don't make big deer easy... they just make them BE THERE.

Absolute great post! Everybody who likes to talk down on HF places needs to read this and if they don't understand it, read it again and again until they do!

I love hunting, whether it is HF or LF, it doesn't matter. If I can choose, I'll choose the ranch with the best management program and the best bucks and whether it has an 8' GP fence or a 5 strand barbed wire fence doesn't matter one bit to me!
