First that chart was prepared by Joe's on another forum, reckon someone quotes us somewhere as experts?
Second, tell me why a shot peened bolt or a black extractor spring insert makes it any better?
BTW, the extractor spring insert in my Bushmaster is Black, in my Wife's Colt is Grey and in my son's Colt is ORANGE The extractor color is not important to me and it's a cheap and easy upgrade. but Shot peening is. Do you not know what this process entails without googling it???? It is a crucial process for high stress components that are subjected to extreme pressures and abuse (like bolts that are prone to breakage). I am surprised that you would make such a statement. I guess top quality bolts aren't important to you. That's odd. DO you? I have 24+ years in the firearms industry, and many days carrying a M16/M4 type weapon. I was merely pointing out what you agreed on, it's pointless. Unless you are a Vietnam era "boil" my gun clean guy, the spring buffer is pointless to argue about color. Shot peening only applies to surface hardness, if the bolt is properly produced, there's no need for it. How can you make such accusatory statements? Shot peening is just an extra step that top shelf companies and military suppliers take to assure that a bolt is as good as it can be. It makes for a more reliable bolt, period. Why not want it. I have never felt the need to tell everyone my industry experience. It's not a point of conversation for me. I like to stick to the facts and not esoteric conjecture.

All of the opinions and data are helpful to someone trying to make a buying decision. That's why we all come to the forums. I have owned many different guns and can only speak from my limited personal experience so that's all I try to comment on. As far as AR's go... not much experience, I have the LE 6920 and the only other AR's I have shot are the Smith M&P and the 6.8 piston gun who's brand escapes me now.
My personal philosophy is to buy a quality name brand and don't cheap out just to save a few bucks.

This exactly. It really doesn't cost much more to get a top quality gun. The 6920 is among the finest AR built.

As for Mil-Spec, that's laughable, Mil-SPec is minimum standards, and Bushmaster builds more for the military than anyone on that list except Colt. False, LMT hands down produces more M16/M4 components for our military than Bushmaster. This data is somewhat limited, in that you must drill down a bit to figure out if they are providing actual weapons or if they are just contracted for some other minor part or service. While the chart was developed by regular joes over at m4carbine.net, if you read that forum for a while you will find there is little tolerance for false information and low quality products. Plus, there are a good number of industry professional on the board to limit the BS.

I just got through reading "Filthy 14" in the October issue of SWAT magazine. Very impressive and informative. The article details the importance of quality parts in the AR platform. In this case, students of Pat Rogers of EAG Tactical fired 31,165 rounds through a BCM M4 clone with minimal maintenance and parts replacement. It's worth getting a copy of SWAT for this article alone.

They are built of cheaper components and really don't offer much that is milspec. Cheap hobby guns. Not the worst but could be a lot better.

Oly's are plinking guns, not guns I would trust my life too. Most are just fine, but we have seen several out of spec oly's come through our door. For the same price I would get a CMMG and have a far better weapon. Agree on Oly being bottom of the barrel as well.

Since Olympic was about the only mfr that was mentioned by name as 'bad' - where do they miss the mark? I have seen many problems with Olys that guys bring in but this one stands out as the worst. All the things listed were on teh SAME rifle LOL !! It was a factory M4 style they offer and these were the things wrong with it. 1. Absolutely NO staking on the gas key. 2. Rear take down pin did not have a detent pin in it only a detent spring. The buffer WAS properly staked though ! LOL This was proof it left the factory without the detent pin. 3. Rifle feed ramps with M4 extension. 4. Hammer spring installed backwards. Other than the feed ramp issue all are simple fixes but I suggested the guy contact Oly Arms and let them know about it. He sent it back but I never heard the outcome. I cant believe i just read all that crap.You guys are weird. Find somwhere thats more normal then...

Cdnn has the S&W M&P flattop carbine adjustable stock for 599!! They also have colt, Les Baer, the FNH Scars and other manaf.!!
