Another question:
If you're so furious over ARs, are you equally furious that you're not allowed to shoot 20 deer a year?
Why should they tell you what you can and can't shoot on your own land? RIDICULOUS.

I never remember people complaining when the State set "slot limits" on some lakes in Texas. Slot limit=inside spread. I know this doesn't apply to private land, but it is still the TPWD telling fisherman what size of fish they could keep and which ones they had to throw back.
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

ya'll that sounds a lot like the same argument over why ppl shouldn't clearcut......treehuggers. just kidding of course, but I'm sure there are some folks that would be all for that bag limit being done away with (not like that really even matters anymore)

a height requirement may work however it would be very difficult for a majority of hunters to judge at least with width there is something to compare to ie ear width

Then what happened? Lakes still have "slot limits" and lakes are producing bigger and healthier fish. Am I wrong? I'm not a fisherman, but how many records here in Texas have been broken since the intro of the "slot limits" Why do you think they started slot limits?

So I can shoot 4 from 12"-14" wide and one over 21"? I think that's how it is on our local slot lakes, not sure, I don't keep any bass off those lakes.

The more I read this I am starting to like the idea of just not having a deer season for 4 years. This way everything can grow big and strong, deer can hump like rabbits and reproduce. Then everyone would be happy, hold hands, and share a beer.
In the mean time everyone can focus on the pig population, maybe drive that down a little.
"Hey running' buddy what'll say to a twelve pack"

Amen to that. But I think its going to be a lost cause. But, we all can have fun shooting them!

I didn't bring fish into this, but now that we have. There has been a 10 inch minimum placed on yellow bass for several years now. Has anyone caught one over 10 inches long?
Just sayin.......

Fortunately, the law is on our side.
We win. Typical lib response. You can't look at this for any kind of win. Yes, you may eventually shoot a larger deer easier than you do now. But if one person stops hunting because of regulations like these how do you consider it a win? An animal does not have to be a trophy in everyones eyes to be a trophy. You are really narrow minded in your winning ways.

AR's suck because the gov't did what it does best. It made a political decision to a real problem. A lot of us Anti-AR guys are very management oriented. We are not the poachers or the "if it's brown it's down" crowd. But the TWPD took a decent management tool , the 13" rule, and made a political compromise to get it pasted, extra spike tag, which just defeated the effects of the decent mangement tool. Goverment at its best. Bag limits and slot limits make sense because they have real scientific data on their side. As Sig can attest to the AR rules do not have clear cut data on their side. Anecdotal accounts are not scientific.

-What's the deal with having to judge a buck's age by the width of his antlers before I can legally shoot it? -Well a lot of folks aren't good at aging bucks by looking at the body structure so that's a good alternative. -Okay, cool. At least I can legally shoot me a spike as an extra buck now. That should be easy. -Don't shoot a young one though, make sure it's an older spike. -How do I do that? -Judge it by it's body structure...how else? -Why the 13" rule in the first place? -We want folks to only take mature bucks to improve our deer herds. -Dang, I might not get venison this year. -That's okay, we will let you shoot a spike as an extra buck and you can shoot more does!
