Every once in a while (once a month maybe), my 1.5 YO female lab will urinate in her sleep. I've been hesitant to seek medical attention to this point, thinking it was just a "youth issue", but, after doing some cursory Internet research, I'm wondering if it does not warrant a trip to the vet.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

I would get her checked out. Probably nothing but you never know.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

My roommate's male bloodhound has a similar problem. He's about 2.5 yrs old and doesn't seem to have very much control over his bladder... he "drips" quite a bit whether he is laying down or walking around. It is pretty annoying, so if you find anything out let me know.
Wreck em!

My lab had the same problem around 6 months... then had blood in her urine... took her to the vet and was told she had a bladder infection... a weeks worth of antibiotics and it never happened again...
Not sure if that helps...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I decided to make an appointment with the vet. I'll let you all know what it turns out to be.

Report from the vet is that it looks like it is a mild urinary tract infection. Two weeks of antibios and a follow up visit will confirm or deny.

My weimaraner had a similar problem when she was a pup. The vet orginally thought it was a bladder or UTI problem so she went on a strict regiment of antibiotics...Several months latter after a lot of head scratching she was placed on a medicine that would be similar to a medication given to humans for urinary incontinence. She gets it every night and we haven't had a problem since, however if we skip a couple of nights she begins having problems again. May not be the same thing, but if it keeps persisting after the antibiotics may be your problem.

Testing ruled out an infection when it started so she went on the medication for incontinence. We did back off of it to double check to make sure it was not a mistaken diagnosis and she did return to having accidents. She started peeing a little in her sleep again off the medication. But we can miss quite a few doses before it returns. It is not uncommon with older dogs I believe.

The name of the medication is Clavamox. I think it was about $50 for two weeks worth. The infection cleared up, and she is good to go now.
