Any suggestions on how to teach a dog to back?

I've seen examples of how to do it with bird launchers and wood cutouts of dogs. Wonder if there is a different, more cost effective way that it can be done with just one person.

Dog can't back if there's not another dog for him to back. The other dog can be another real dog or a plywood cutout. You don't have to have an automatic standup dog. Build your cutout and hide it behind a bush or around a corner so the dog is more or less surprised by it. Then make him stand until released.

Bird release with homing pigeons is cheap. The way I was taught to train my dog was to release the bird as soon as he saw the pointing dog or the cut out. It doesnt have to be popup just put it over a hill or around a corner of brush. As soon as you think your dog sees it release. My dog honored on the second time I led him into the same cut out in the same position. It took repetition to get it down every time though. If he honors then make him hold it longer and longer.

Plus dont let him get close enough to the cut out that he can tell its fake. keep on cord and lead away after release.
