What if it had been a young buck on the back side?

Saw it happen this year to a guy I know, it is cool I guess till it hits something you don't intend say a buck then it really sucks.
+1 on watch what is behind or even to the side sometimes it can't be helped but sure sucks when it is something you wanted to keep.

what is behind what your shooting at. +1...not very responsible. Make that +2. That second shot was pure dumb luck that it killed the doe and didn't just wound her, with her running off. Not a good thing to teach a hunter young or old to do.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

no bucks were in the area, it wasn't a planned shot. i thought it was neat that it took out both of them. i understand what you mean about whats behind what you are shooting. sure didn't mean for it to turn into this.

I used to dove hunt with a old man and his grown son. He had a couple small bucks mounted in his living room. Story was he got tired while hunting and fell asleep under a tree. When he woke up these two bucks were running in circles around the tree in opposite directions. He decided to shoot one but they happened to cross at the shot and dropped them both!
Stuff like this was always happening whenever we hunted together. I was standing next to the son on a dove hunt when he shot two doves going in opposite directions with one shot.
Another time I was dove hunting near the old man so I could retrieve his birds for him (he was a deadeye shot from his lawnchair) and a young dove flew from tree to tree. The old man started to shoot until he realized what it was. A few minutes later the dove flew down and landed on the end of his gun barrel! Wish I would have had a camera. It was a million dollar shot.

Luckily it was a doe back their feeding and not a buck fawn or a little yearling nub. ac

Heck if one can line it up right I don't see what the problem is. I shoot Fusion bullets and have killed two hogs with one shot getting a pass through on both of them. While I probably wouldn't out right recommend it I wouldn't condemn the guy for it.

did you not learn anything from the hunters ed class??? you always need to make sure there is nothing behind the target you are shooting!

I think the question here should be: Can I be 100% certain that my bullet is going to pass through the target, intact, on course, and with enough energy to kill the second target? If the answer is no, then it is an irresponsible shot and disrespectful to the animal and to the hunting community. maybe you should shoot at cans instead. If the answer is yes, i'd pull the trigger. then again, I've seen a bullet deflected by a twig. my .02$
