Last week I had a 4hr MINOR back surgery. This thursday is another surgery and next thursday, two days before season start. I will do all I can to make it to the stand opening morning. Might be in a little pain, hopefully the drugs will handle that. I knew this was going to happen back in july, I saw it coming.

Thanks, Jigfish

Better be careful that you don't re-injure your back out there if you get to make it.

I missed the opener last year due to a week of training in College Station. Dont those people know it is a national holiday? Not missing it this year. Sorry to hear your situation but take care of it, it's the only one you got.

i was looking for pictures of "Miss Opening Day"

made me think... what a great idea for a beauty pageant name
deer hunters need our own beauty queen after all...

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"I can dive deeper and come up drier"
"did you do that?"

Believe me, If I can make it, I will be in stand opening day. I will have to be in a lot of pain to keep me at home.

Thanks, Jigfish

How long of a drive do you have to get to your hunting place? If it's more than an hour, I think you'll be pushing your luck to drive a ways, then start twisting/stooping/lifting. Pain is there to tell you something, don't push it if you get there and have enough pain to require medication for it. Just my opinion of course, I'm no doctor.

Don't push it, you could land up in a wheelchair. Been there and done that and had the wheelchair to prove it.

Hang in there Brutha. If there's a will there's a way. Tell the Dr.s What your intenions are, they will help you. When I was in the hospital, they had to put a Central Port in my chest to my heart. The Dr put it on my left side so I can still shoot. (MY Dr is a hunter, he understands) I'll be there opening morning with an IV running. LOL Now that's hardcore. LOL

That sucks, but its better to be safe than sorry.

Big T, glad your back to posting, hope your getting better. An IV in the stand, thats a new one, be careful with that.

Thats exactly what I was thinking! "And the winner of the 2009 Miss Opening Day pageant is......." But seriously there will be other opening days, but you only got one back. Get well and back in the woods soon, but not too soon.

I know I'll be missing opening day/weekend. I'll be in Albuquerque working. Oh well, there'll be plenty of weekends to come.

And I agree. If you can't do it, don't try. Not worth risking permanent damage just for a weekend of hunting.

Pain is just weakness leaving the body. I have hunted all bow season with a torn tendon in my shoulder and pending surgery for it. I will hunt up to the day of the surgery. You only get so many opening days, don't waste one.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.
