Who has or is using deer decoys and did or does it work. Any sugestions just curious if should use it as a doe or buck in the feeder pen or out. or would be best setup on or near trails little ways back in woods coming into the feeder. I ask this being i just bought one off another thf memeber being the price was right and worth a try.

I used my archery target buck and put him in an open spot on my lease. On my first first try ever at rattling, and very first time using a decoy, I rattled an 8pt up buck in probably 90 seconds. He came within 5-10ft of the decoy, circled him, then took off. It was the coolest thing ever.

I used a cardboard doe and it scared the deer away. Never tried again.

I once had a plastic 'feeding' doe. It scared deer off, cows loved it. Threw it away after they chewed the ears off.

I have an archer target with the antlers removed and used it with mixed results. I think it suckers deer into coming out into food plots and open areas. They don't seem as spooky when they see another deer looking thing. However, I have never had a buck come out and investigate it during the rut.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Same thing for me, have my archery target in my front yard and i have had a 4pt buck [not legal] come in twice now and circle it and feed awhile then leave. Fun to watch but frustrating when its not legal.

I never used one but one of the guys I hunt with used one and he put some doe estrus on it, and had a small buck come in and circle around several times and sniff it, and continue feeding within just a few feet of the decoy.
He actually had to run the deer off because it wouldn't leave.
It was really funny to hear him tell the story.
