Whats wrong biz you getting the fever. 15 days left, you better keep mommy happy so she will let you go. I would hate to have to come back and tell you about it because mommy grounded you a day or two before we left.

Unit 421 around Collbran. Collbran is east of Grand Junction, Collbran is on Plateau Creek, and sits between the Grand Mesa N.F. and the White River N.F. We hunt private land. The season starts like the Sat. after Thanksgiving, or the first Sat. in Dec., it varies. It runs till the second Sunday in Jan. In a normal year, there is enough snow in both the White River N.F. and up on Grand Mesa, that it pushes the elk down into the valley. The outfitter Lora and I hunt with has several ranchers he deals with, and he pays them a set amount for every cow his clients take off their hay meadows and stacks. It ain't the same as hunting bulls, success rate is higher, but we still have to drive around and find them, then we have to figure out a stalk, due to where they may be in the meadow. Tags are half the price of bull tags, and the hunt is around $700.00 or so. Lora and I can go up and get 2 cows and have a day or two to mess around in Grand Junction for less than half the price of a bull hunt. Besides I killed a decent 5x5 in 1997, so I ain't really interested in shooting another bull.

Hey whby05, if I could offer you any advice it would be DON'T try to do to much to fast. Give yourself a day or two to get use to the altitude difference. We were hunting at 7500ft and it was a lil rough. I personally didn't have to awful much trouble although when we were climbing the hills I could sure tell a difference in my breathing. My two buddies that went with me had a harder time than I did, not sure why but they did. The air is awfully thin up there and your body has to work harder to get the oxygen it needs. I wish you luck and hope you get the one your want while our there.
