I was thinking about buying some of the Scent-Lok clothing.
Does that stuff really work?

Waste of money IMO. Way overpriced. Just buy some scent killer spray and hunt the wind.

we have always put our gear in heavy duty plastic bags and dust it with baking soda.

arm-and-hammer... just like your mom does with the box in the fridge. it eats up odors. we wash our camo with detergent when needed, like after using bug spray or sweating profusely, then wash it again with a cup of baking soda and no detergent. we let them hang dry and then put them in the bags inside out with a dusting of baking soda.

I've used scent lok since it first came out several yrs. ago. I've had some fabulous results and i've had some disappointing results. The difference I believe is how I have tried to use it. Think of the scent lok suit like you would a sponge. It has a capacity, once that is reached it will not absorb any more odor. If you buy it from a store and take it straight to the field w/o doing your normal scent precautions, you will be disappointed. Here is how I use it now. Buy it, take it home, put it in a large zip bag with no other scent(if you use a cover scent it will absorb that). When you get ready to use it(I save mine until I feel I am ready to move in for the kill on a special deer or location.)charge it in the dryer and put it back in the zip container where it will stay until you are at your lease and step out of the truck and put it on as your outerwear. If you have bathed and washed up good and used some scent killer spray in all the places, then you will get best results. If you are not willing to wear the head mask you are wasting your time. Don't wear the stuff when you are scouting , filling feeders,etc., only when you are ready for the hunt. after the hunt, back in the zip. recharge after 4-5 hunts. Don't expect this stuff to last a lifetime. 2-3 yrs. and it is not as effective as it was when it was new.

Sounds like the exact same thing I do with my normal camo, only I didn't pay an outrageous price.

It is very expensive, but i've got several deer on the wall that would not be there without my scent lok. It's not for everyone but yes if used correctly it will work like nothing else.

I see you haven't tried it but you speak with authority on the subject. Never said it was the only way to kill a deer. danthebowhunter ask about the product. If you are bowhunting and need to get 40 yrds and closer and you use it properly it will work. I haven't been duped but it has duped the noses of several whitetails for me. I can say that with authority.

I don't care what you wear. If a deer gets down wind of you, he will smell you. So, I say save your money on the scent lok clothes, and do that same routine with some scent away products on some regular camo, and you'll be just fine.

BTW, have you heard about the scent lok lawsuit?

Yes, more than likely they will. But the difference is, will they run or will they stay!!! I have 3 suits. I paid about $100 to $150 for each suit. I buy on close-out and clearance sales. I probably paid less than most people spend on regular huntin clothes. I only wear mine when I go to Ks. I wear it head to toe. Everybody says all you need to do is spray down. How do we know that the spray works?? I can tell ya it don't. I have already done the experiment between the two. By using just the spray, got busted at 60 yds and the deer high tailed it out of there. Got busted at 20 yds with Scent-lok, but deer never ran off. They stood there nervously till they moved off to my left and got out of my wind and stayed there at 20 yds for the next 45 mins. These were all does. Had a buck come directly downwind few minutes later and never noticed.
So, to answer the question at hand, the people that will tell you it's a waste of money or a scam, never have wore it. Shop around. Like I said, I've never spent over $150 for mine. Treat it like it says, it will work, or at least it has for me. Proff is on the wall.

I wash all hunting clothes with baking soda. It really works, and I wear Scentlok jacket and pants and headgear, I think it works if it doesn't then the baking soda trick is key. I just try to do all I can to stay scent free, clothes, spray, and the wind. It's all worth the effort IMO.

i would never buy a scent lock camo outfit. its just marketing and the carbon belief that they at least did have and how you could reactivate the carbon when you place the camo in the dryer is completely untrue and absolute false

3/4 box of baking soda in the wash and the rest in a heavy zip lock style bag or heavy mil garbage sack. 50 cents for the baking soda at Dollar General and 2.50 for twenty 30 gallon size bags. Pretty cost effective and works for the life of the material.

i use scent lok and i will admit it is pretty expensive but look for it when its on sale. last weekend i was hunting and i was hunting a pop up and had a doe 10 yards away from me and it walked behind me down wind and never got spooked it actually circled me and never smelt me at all.

I believe that anything that makes you a more confident hunter, is worth however much you're willing to spend. I do believe that common sense measures are just as effective as any scent control clothing can be.

dont believe in it. go hunt with txbowhunter1 and you will learn why scentlok is another way to get your money. i also wear more camo out to dinner than i do hunting so take my comment for what its worth.

i have tried it both ways also and the scent-lok works better than just using the spray, and always play the wind.
