i think he did say, .270 with 130 grain soft points...i call this a fluke...a fluke that could happen with a hear shot...
I am not an old timer BTW, and i absolutely love the neck shot
the man at the top of the mountain didn't fall up it

IMO - the animal derserves better. Very few people should be attempting a neck shot, much less with a .223.

You do not need a direct spine hit to break the spine, if you hit within 1.5 inches of that spine with a .270 of greater with 130grains that will deliver 2009 foot pounds of energy at 200 yards, 9999 times out of 10000 that shot will break the neck, thus giving you at least a 3 inch margin, and I can shoot 3 inch groups all day long. Bingo! We have a winner! Some of you have seen this photo already. I shot this cull with my Ruger M77 last year. 30.06 with a 150 grain Spring. Whipped his head around with a quickness! Snapped his spine instantly. No running. No breathing. No blood. Just DRT!! I always say though, unless you're an excellent shot with 100% confidence in your weapon, you should NOT attempt neck shots.
