i think he did say, .270 with 130 grain soft points...i call this a fluke...a fluke that could happen with a hear shot...

I am not an old timer BTW, and i absolutely love the neck shot

IMO - the animal derserves better. Very few people should be attempting a neck shot, much less with a .223.

best reducer of hit/mis around base of neck below skull,,smallest diameter of neck with largest spine mass and smallest muscle mass,/ compare silver dollar to vertebra of 70 lb er

Bingo! We have a winner!

Some of you have seen this photo already. I shot this cull with my Ruger M77 last year. 30.06 with a 150 grain Spring.

Whipped his head around with a quickness! Snapped his spine instantly. No running. No breathing. No blood. Just DRT!!

I always say though, unless you're an excellent shot with 100% confidence in your weapon, you should NOT attempt neck shots.

Neckshooters I'm sure ya'll are excellent shots but the odds will catch up to you.I've seen it happen to other good shots;guys that could outshoot me easily.But it's your deer and hunt so.... Kix
