Dipping = unnatural smell = deer run off. I try to be as scent free as possible (ie take shower everytime before I head to the wood, spray down, get dress in scentblocker outside).

If I am in a stand...I will have a dip in my mouth. Even when bowhunting. I don't think snuff really bothers them.

I do, I haven't seen it mess with anything that I've had come out...even if there is a puddle under the tree. But not everyone's deer are going to act that way, some deer think with their noses, others think with their stomachs and a false sense of security.

Anytime I am in my hunting area, i make sure i dont spit on the ground or piss anywhere. if im out filling feeders i will usually spit in the truck bed. but i wont dip while im in a bow stand... I need all the help i can get to shoot a big buck, i dont want to risk the chance of a big deer smelling my dip

I do, I switched to the camel snus spitless pouches. No spitting. It doesn't really provide the fix that a big ole pinch does though. But be warned, I got scented this weekend right after I had put one in, I don't know if it was the Snus, the snikers I had just ate, or just me being stinky..

I do. I try and spit on the the tree that I am in so that it never reaches the ground. I havent noticed it making a difference as far as spooking deer.

bring an empty water bottle with you and spit in that so you dont have to spit on the ground or in a tree then you can keep the cap on and your mouth closed so not as much scent it out as for me i do the camel snus too just b/c i dont want to blow it with a big deer

I don't smoke anymore but I used to smoke ALOT. If you are in a tree stand they will not smell it as the smoke mostly drifts up but I have had deer SEE the smoke from a distance and change direction. Gun hunting may be OK but I would not smoke if bow hunting.

I dipped for 30 years, ALWAYS dipped in the stand, bow and gun. I finally quit 3.5 years ago and I haven't been seening any more deer than I used to. I think if they wind you they wind you, if you are enjoying a pinch or not. Smoking I can't help you with. I'm glad I stopped dipping however, it hs been a great relief. Good luck

Texasbdog, you mention that quitting has been a great relief. If you don't mind my asking, from your personal experience, what kind of benefits have you noticed since you quit? 38 years for me and I'm thinking about giving it up. If I make up my mind, I know I can kick it, but curious to hear some first hand comments from you on what you like about not dipping since you've got 3.5 years under your belt now. Congratulations on sticking with it. Thanks....Jon

I have dipped for 12 years and finally quit 3 months ago. Best thing I ever did. I have more energy and more money for my hobbies. A study showed that you lose 10 percent of your strength while dipping. I will see if I can find the article. It was in a fitness mag.
Live to hunt, forced to work!

I swallow my dip....that way when the inevitable bowl growl hits while in the stand...I can let a church house creeper that has a normal "snuffy" aroma to it...
Think you can/Think you can't/Either way you're right

Jon, if you are like I was it really did consume me while I was dipping. If I was going to a movie, to work, hunt even to church, I had to make sure I had a can and enough in it to get through. And yes I operated the audio video at my church for a few years and after a while I started dipping there too, not proud of it but there it is. When I quit it was like I was released from that mentality. I gained weight at first but I soon took it off. I can taste my food now, and the heartburn ended as well. I still chew LOTS of gum but at least my breath is fresh now. I went through 2 cans a day.I lost 2 brothers a sister and a Mom within 5 years to cancer soooo I decided it was time to quit. I will enjoy an occassional cigar, maybe 4-5 a year but that is it. I tried everything to quit but nothing worked until I was hypnotized, weak mind I guess, anyway it worked. My gums are back to normal, and believe it or not but I had bad back problems and it has really gone away for the most part??? Do whatever it takes to quit, it will do you good and man it was getting expensive! Good luck, sorry to hijack the thread. Mike

I dip in the stand all the time. Like someone else said... If they bust you they will bust if you are spitting or not. I don't smoke so that is not an issue for me.
You can't fix stupid but you can numb it with a 2x4

Butter as you have made very clear your stand is a flatbed dodge

I chain smoke in the blind (and even in a tree stand) has not been a problem for me.
