Looking into getting the Stag Arms Hunter in 6.8. Will be using it to take does mostly. Also for pigs that pop up while riding the ranch in the Mule.
Any openions on the round itself. What grain and bullet brand for deer?

I have been using one for the past couple of years, and the 6.8 has done very well on several pigs and whitetails. 110gr bullets (Barnes or Sierra's) have been my recipe, with all shots under 125 yds, and nothing hit has walked off. There are the 6.8 fanatics out there, stating the cartridge is good for 300+ yards and suitable for elk , but I use mine with more realistic goals in mind. Biggest critter taken was a 200 lb-ish boar, but the Barnes did enter near the earhole, so he succumbed quickly.

I have a standard DPMS lower with a Double Star 1:10 upper chambered in 6.8. My rifle is very accurate with Sierra 110 grain prohunters. Great on pigs and deer. I say get the stag, thats what I wanted but wasn't willing to wait for it.

I've been using a 6.8 SPC as my ranch rifle for a couple of years; I've killed over 100 hogs, a couple of deer, and some assorted varmints (mainly coons) with it. I handload, using Sierra ProHunter 110gr--you can buy a similar round from Silver State Armory. I'm absolutely amazed at the killing power of this round, particularly with the ProHunters. Recoil is negligible.

I shot a pig Thursday night with my 6.8. It laid him out, he was probably around 140-150 pounds. I shot him right behind his ear. Bang, flop.

The 6.8 with the right projectile is a nice deer/hog cartridge out to 250 yds.

I know a guy that killed a cow with one. He was night hunting with thermal and thought it was a pig. Said the cow fell dead with one round in the neck. I think it can kill a deer pretty dern well.
