I was thinking about hunting over some rice fields this season. I was wondering:
1. How many of y'all hunt over rice? 2. Do rice paddies have high waterfowling success rates? 3. Is there any rice farming outside the Houston/gulf coast area?

The area between El Campo and Victoria and the area centered around Winnie are the rice production capitols of Texas. Rice production is down, but there is still enough there to draw significant numbers of waterfowl. You will see high numbers of pintails and teal, plus geese of all descriptions. If you have access to rice fields that do not already have pit blinds in place, you'll need a layout.
And I hope you like mud...

1. We hunt rice. 2. We are successful in rice. 3. There is rice from Mobile Alabama clear around to Victoria. Heavy rice production in LA, Mississippi, and Arkansas is know for 2 types of duck hunting, flooded timber and rice fields. I know our annual pilgramage to Arkansas we hunt both rice & flooded timber depending on where the ducks want to be. Sure is different to see mallards dropping into rice in AR unlike the gulf coast.
Good luck.
