I'm sure this is a typical question but I figured I'd ask anyway. I'm 24 and I've only been hunting a handful of times. Me and a buddy I work with have been trying to find a way to go hunting this year but it seems unless you have thousands to spend on a lease your SOL. How do you guys find a place to hunt that you can afford? I've looked into the grasslands and other public areas but they are shotgun, muzzeloader and bow only, we own none of these. We are mostly just interested in hunting hogs and yotes.
Can someone please point me in the right direction so that next year maybe I can finally do some hunting.

You don't need $1,000's of bucks. A lease you will need about $1,500 each but you will get turkey and deer as well. You will need a shotgun for turkey and need to know how to use it. A friend will probably need to get you on. Friends who hunt are your best friends.
If there were yote or hog leases, my best friend would be in on it. But he has to pay regular price and that is how it goes.

Head north to the Red River. There is a ton of acres to hunt, and all means are legal there.

just north of Gainseville there is COE land that you do no need a permit to hunt. It is open to the public. The area is from walnut bend all the way over to Hagerman wildlife refuge area. Search around on the internet and you can find a map of the hunting area.

The very first topic under the category of Lands & Leases is public hunting opportunity.
