Hey everyone, hope all had a good weekend and made it home safe.
Just wanted to remind everyone to be so careful. Down around Gilmer there was a young man (31) getting his lease ready for gun season. He was getting some stuff out of his truck, dropped his gun, and it shot him, went through leg, up his body and out his shoulder, was worked on for hours but finaly lost his battle. He left behind several small children.
You just never know when something can go wrong.
So everyone be safe and may God bless.

Sad thing
My mother used to be a emergency room nurse in Long view and she said most hunting accidents they saw where from falling out of stands and cuts from broadheads and knife accidents while cleaning game.

Never trust a safety. I really feel for his family. If hunters would just be sure to always wait until they get into their stands before loading their firearm, and unload it before they leave, the vast majority of hunting-related shooting accidents would be eliminated. So what if you jump a deer on your way back to the truck. Better to live for a chance on another day, than never seeing another day. Just keep something in the clip if you feel you might come across a wild hog or other threat. You can quickly chamber a round if necessary. That's something I like about rifles with a removeable clip. I can more easily seperate the gun from the ammo. Carrying a loaded gun when not in an active hunting situation is like carrying one around your house and home in the same way. Lots of things can happen with tragic results.

My wifes cousin shot himself and died about 5 years ago when he was lowering his muzzleloader down from his stand using a rope. Gun went off and shot him thru the bottom of the stand and up thru his butt. He had a wife and kid, with one on the way.
Be safe out there guys. Accidents can and do happen.
Prayers to the family in Gilmer.

That's terrible. I really feel for his family. Remember guys, dont be afraid to call someone out if they are not handling a firearm safely. All actions open when not actually hunting. Things happen quick with bad results. Be safe everyone. God bless that man and his family.

Sad news. And everyone....don't forget the Garland Police Officer that fell out of his treestand last year and impaled himself on a metal fence T-post....Use your harness. One hunting accident that happened to two friends of mine usually gets overlooked and I would like to remind everyone. Paul and Bob sealed up their camper with silicone to keep the wind out.....lit a coleman stove for warmth and died of asphyxiation. Kind of an overlooked hunting accident, but it happened to them...so you can't be too careful.

Tragedy happens many times and we are all saddened to hear of such loss of life. I would really like to thank Sniper.270 for posting this as we all need to realize the posibilities and how easy it is to take safety in the field for granted. If you don't come home, it ain't worth it. No matter what!!

Actually I think he was attacked by Wasps while trying to enter his stand when he fell on the T-post! I believe Gcop here on the forum was best friends with him and was the first to arrive at the scene when it happend!
