It did not hit her back bone looks like a .22 how would y'all take care of it. i talked to a vet and they wanted 400$ just to look at it and were talking about not even doing anything but clean it

I would use a large syrnge and mix 50-50 bleach and water and wash at least twice a day more if you can. Will keep from getting infected and keep clean. Not a vet but have had dogs sliced up pretty good over the years and worked for me for wound healing.

Someone like that deserves what ever they get.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

I have had a couple of dogs get gored and have some open wounds, I always cleaned it really well and would shoot them up with some LA200 livestock antibiotic. Seemed to clear them up pretty quick and never had any effects on the dogs.

I wish that were true but it seems low lifes have it too good sometimes. I would say rather that they would get what they deserve.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

I would flush it with Iodine and give 5cc of penicillin twice a day for 3 days.

If this dog is a hog dog and you cant afford a $400 vet bill to get the dog fixed right then you dont need a hog dog. I have seen hogs cause worse damage and cost 3 times as much to fix but you owe it to the dog.

ellis, i wont lie, 400 would be the top dollar i would spend to fix any of my dogs. first and foremost they are dogs.... guess it just depends on how u grew up, ive always seeen dogs as dogs, but i know a lot of people see dogs as people...

WOW! Even if it was life or death to one of your best dogs? Heck i spent $500 on one that wasnt even life threatning just was sick from some bad food. I look at it as if that dog goes out and hunts it [censored] off for ME and MY enjoyment then i will do EVERYTHING in my power to make sure it is healthy and happy even if that requires me to spend some money at the vet to make sure!!!! Yep diffrent outlooks, dont look at my dogs as people but hunting partners, i go hunting with them and they find me hogs on a daily basis and i know how hard i have worked to get them there and how hard it is to find another dog just like what i have..

ya, i see my dogs (at least most of em) as tools. so i just wont spend tht kinda money. now i can see if this particular dog made me a lot of money, then ya, spend the money, but as far as it just being my hog dog.... if it gets 500dollars sick, then i will just have to say goodbye so i can start training another one.

I usually use 50/50 betadine and water, put it in a syringe or spray bottle and flush twice a day. You can also let a garden hose run on it for a few minutes twice a day, just enough water pressure to dimple the skin. I use the pen-aqueus for antibiotic if that's all I've got. I usually keep some cephalexin on hand for when the dogs get cut. you can get betadine and pen-aqueous from a feed store. just make sure the wound is healing from the inside out, keep entry and exit open so it will drain. You will likely notice some clear fluid draining from the wound, that's ok. if it gets white or yellow you may have an infection and you're getting into vet territory. good luck with your dog.

as a side note, I've spent $400 or better at a vet a couple times. Just from a money standpoint alone, it takes more than that to replace a decent strike dog, let alone one you like.

Ellis speaks from many years experience not just a wanta be.You raise a dog and get him to be a real deal hog dog and not just a me to dog or go to dog and you will spend what ever it takes to keep these dogs in good hunting health.I have hunted with Ellis and he takes care of his hunting dogs.

Thanks Gordon, where do i sent the check again.LOL But yes i do and i have learned that no matter how good you think you may be at doctoring a wound or sickness if the dog MEANS something to you get it to the vet! But to each his own and hope your dog recovers from the wound. Luckily i have meet a few good honest people (Some bad ones too) in this great sport and Gordon would be one of those guys as well.
