Feeder Filler

If I was in DFW I'd stop by and take a look at it as the price is not bad.

Seems devices like these are relatively easy to build once one figures out the best baffle design.

Though I do not mind lugging 50lb sacks of corn, I have to question my judgement at times when I'm out alone on a couple thousand acres climbing up and down a ladder.

Now that is a good idea... I'll be looking for the video, and putting my leaf blower to good use.

I think it might be alright if you attached the pipe (drill hole in lid) where it goes into your feeder and left it there... just plug up the end on the ground. Then you could go feeder to feeder and hook up to it without having to go up a ladder and remove the top each time.

Otherwise, it doesn't seem all that convenient.

I think we had a thread on this type of item last year and someone actually figured out how to make the baffle correctly. The key is getting the baffle right. This is a slightly cheaper version of this: http://www.bossbuck.com/products/feeders/pakmule.html

It is actually slower than climbing a ladder. If you can handle the ladder thing then it is not all that much of an investment. The only time I use the one I have is if I have to do a feeder that is 1,000 lbs or over, by hand. If you have an infirmity, that hinders your ability to climb a ladder with a feed bag on your shoulder, it would make things easier for you.

The pvc will build up a static electricity charge that will wake you up. Doesn't hurt, but it gets aggravating really quick. You might want to try to ground it. It's worse on low humity days.

Yeah, we had a thread on this before. I think it's one of those neat ideas that will wind up gathering dust in storage after a few times. Plus, for what you actually get, that's an awful expensive trash can (that has a hole in it).

A couple of years ago somebody on the forum built one like it.

Back the truck up stand on the tail gate fill it and leave alot fast plus you don't scare every deer in the county. That thing would take forever on a 600 pound feeder like mine.

That's what I was talking about. I will only use it if the feeder is over 1,000 lbs and then it is roughly one bag a minute. So we are talking about around 20 minutes to fill a feeder. The only reason I do it is cuz my knees start really huring at about bag 10. 250-300 lb feeders, nothing to it, because my knees get a break going to the next feeder.

Whoever said it would be a dust catcher is also right. That's exactly what mine does most of the time.

If you are in bad shape, go for it, but otherwise that $150 will buy ammo or a scope or something else.

Seriously? You can't back your truck up to the feeder and lift a 50 lb bag over your shoulder??? Idk if it's just me and the lifestyle I have, but that just seems like laziness and a waste of money to me...

Some feeders don't work that way...

Some guys may need this you are right but the young guns ( FOR NOW ) LOL.... We just back up dump and go. Now we do have and auger for the 5 6,000 pound protien feeders way to many bags for that.

How do they work that you can't throw corn in them?

that thing is pointless unless u are handicapped because anyone can fill a feeder on a truck or ladder, if not their just being lazy. thats part of the fun of going down to the ranch on weekends is to fill feeders and get away

It is not pointless if you fall off a ladder and shatter your knee AND then make a 4 hour trip to the hospital!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, when I fill feeders I usually ended up taking out at least one ton of feed and in case you don't know it, I'm fixin' to be 60 years old next month. Besides that most of the feeders I fill have good solid feed pens around them and not something that is hastily wired together.

I've done the balancing act with one foot on the tailgate and one on the side rail to fill a feeder. Excellent way to get hurt. I don't heal as fast as I used to and being stove up means no money coming in.

However, please continue doing it whatever way you like and enjoy feeling macho while you can. It'll catch up to ya eventually.

Like deerfeeder said...pens...and I don't skimp on tie-wire. I don't use that feeder filler, I do it all with a ladder...thousand per feeder, 4 feeders every trip, 6 or 7 times a year.

Last year a hunter fell off of his ladder and impaled himself on a T post. It might be lazy, but he would be alive today if he had one of these.

How many others have hurt themselves that there are no statistics on? I would bet the number of strained backs etc. could be pretty high for the ones of that are in our 60's.

X2 Good point man. I have two of those in the back if I would have know that they were worth that much I would sold them along time ago! Seems like it's a cool idea but kinda high, they should work on a deal with a leaf blower company and try to get the price right for the whole thing to work out the door. It's kinda like buying a car with no wheels.

That is kinda a reckless thing to say. Apparently you don't hunt with anyone that is about 65 years old. I agree man going down to fill feeders and drink beer is great but your not gonna be 25-40 years old forever.
