dogcatcher, slide over and make some room on the bench for another Old Farts Club member, How about the Tree stand or Tripod Stand, Now that was an amazing new toy. yep we would build our own back then but you could nail it to the tree and it would not take 3 or 4 men to move it.

7MAG Hold off on spending 99 bucks at wally world on a GPS, most of the cheaper ones doon't do very much or receice very well. I've got 4 or 5 counting the two on the boat. I'll bring one with me and you can use it before you buy one, then if you like it you can get one like with computer software for around 250.

No Picked up the WC as a joke on TFF couple years back when I compared my self to the famous ill fated and unsuccessful Coyote of Hollywood fame...always chasin the Success of a Lifetime Chicken and never quite catchin' him...or having my best laid plans give me severe heartburn. You might see my other "handle" on some some of the other sites like AR and 24HCF as "Verhoositz" which is a parody of my last name from back in my days running a SG distributor and factory rgl gun rep from the mid '70's to the late 80's. But I am no gunsmith and thats for sure...just an opinionated old geezer who has been up and down the road more times than I care to think about in most of the United States at one time or another...like most salesmen who can tell you the attributes of why my apple is better than someone else's apple, I am however sometimes extremly dangerous to myself and others with a wheelbarrow, a #2 round edged shovel or flat edge screw driver and other such hitech 'chinery. Team Hillbilly, I built a tripod in the early 60s out of 22 ft pieces of oil field pipe, built it on site took about 4 joints. Took a oil field winch truck to move it, and your ears would pop when you went up or down, but you could see for miles and miles. Needed a parachute to get down.

i would also have to say the telescopic rifle scope. before its invention, the best hunting guns were 150 yarders, on deer sized game. i know a sharps can hit a buffalo at 500 yards but thats like hitting a truck at that distance. its invention has allowed us to take game a longer distances, later and earlier times in the day, and make more accurate shot placement for cleaner kills
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The t-post stepper! jk. As far as one thing recently that I think has made the biggest difference in my hunting is the mojo dove. The thing is incredible in pulling birds from others to you. Everytime I have used one in front of others, they just are amazed at how much it works.

Give it some thought, and give me your input. What product or products for hunting have made a difference in the way we hunt, and helps us with more success and better enjoyment of hunting as we know it???
I will start with my product, which by the way is my next purchase. A GPS system has too be one of the coolest things I have ever seen in the field and on water for that fact. The small, hand held type, are totally awesome. A buddy of mine has 3, well ok 4, one is integrated into his 4 wheeler, and came as part of the package. I will be the first to admit, I have no sense of direction, more so when I am in the "pastures" of west TX. The same guy that has the GPS systems, has been bailed out of a few messes in the Piney Woods of East TX, and the Colorado Mountains. I have yet to buy one, and will probably just get one from Wal Mart, they have for $99.00. They can mark most any thing and postion on land and water. Everything from where your feeder is postioned to where to go catch the big fish. So what is a product(s) you feel has made a diffence in your hunting success???? It can be electronic or non, and anything you feel makes it easier on you, or gives you an advantage with hunting.
The INDUSTRY.....computers, without a doubt. The SPORT........optics. The HUNTER.......Gore-tex Camps............Satellite TV, running water, and electricity.
Ours does not have water or electricity. We do have a generator, and if insistent we have a Satellite TV. I like it better without.

Wiley I can relate. My counterweighted tree ascender experiment required 6 stiches. 44 Mag /410 efforts didn't get me into the ACGS Guild. The list of failed efforts is long and distinguished. With age comes wisdom.......... sometimes.

To me, the vast amount of knowledge, that we have avaliable to us has made the most impact on our sport. I can't single out 1 paticular tangable item that has aided us in the quest for deer, except the knowledge we have gain thru the media. Be it the internet, like this, or T.V., or thru print media, deer hunting can be found just about any where. There is a old saying, that if you have knowledge you have power, and I believe that if you have access to this it puts you years ahead of folks that don't. For example, I grew up deer hunting in the days, when you went with your Dad or Grandpas, and you learned the ways of the woods, trial and error. Guess what, now there is no trial and error all the guess work is taken out, because everything you need is accessable, and a lot of times for a price. That's why I'm convinced that today's novice has a far greater advantage today than the kids growing up like I did years back.
Guess what, I still rather have it the way I had it.
