don't know if this topic has come up before, what is the biggest dressed weight of a texas deer that you have personally taken or seen. biggest i've got is 160 lbs, we had one on our ranch that dressed 195. thats the biggest that i've heard of from a texas deer. i heard of one up in junction that dressed 175, still a brute. uncle of mine hunted up in maine, killed one that went over 300 pounds, would have liked to see that buck on the hoof, must have been huge. record live weight for any species of whitetail is 511 lbs.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Back in 1983 and '84 a gang of us were hunting on the ranch that was owned by the Schliecher County Ag Agent, Ronnie Mittel just a couple miles north of El Dorado. Seems like it was in '84 one of the guys, Ernie Barnes or Mark Kemper, shot the biggest WT I'ver seen in Texas for body mass as a mature 8 point. I just remember that it took 4 or 5 of us to load the deer up in a pick up truck out in the field, and that the deer weighed more the Ronnie's official cotton scale would show and bottomed it out with a very firm thud after it had been field dressed... and the scale went to 200 pounds. Ronnie confirmed that it was not a Mule Deer or even a hybrid but a pure White Tail. My 6-7 year old 10 Pt Desert Muley from near Van Horn only weighed about 212-215 dressed so that was one Hoss of a White Tail. Most of the big WT's I've seen or taken run about 145 - 165 field dressed and only seen a handful of bucks go over 150 dressed in 30 years...and none of mine have been that big. Ron

A doe, from my land, south of Bowie . We didn't weigh it after gutting but prior to it, the gal went about 190 lbs. on cotton scales. This was about 10 years ago and we had several of them around. I haven't seen anything like that in quite a while and the bucks were always dwarfed by them.

Don't know what the field dressed weight was, but my former hunting partner shot a doe up on the place we hunted in Montague, that after we got thru getting her ready to go to the processor, and this was a carcass ready to be cut up, and it was 85 pounds hanging weight at the processor. That was one of the biggest Texas deer I have personally seen.

The 10 pt i took last year was my biggest in over 35 years of hunting whitetails, although i didn't weigh him, I'm pretty sure he would have went well over 200 lbs. After loading him in to the back of my truck by my self, he felt more like 500 lbs.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

My biggest was last year's buck and he was 170 dressed but very, very run down from the rut. a 215 won the heavy weight at DF&G's contest. The heaviest off the ranch I'm on last year was 210. I have my eye on a BIG bodied 8 point cull that for sure will dress over 200. I have a picture with him in between two 5.5 year old bucks that will probably dress 160 or so and he makes them look like does!
I can't remember where I saw this at (maybe in the news paper), but there was a WT shot in the Panhandle that dressed over 250 last year. There are some absolute brutes up there!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

My son shot a buck on our lease in the panhandle last year that bottomed out my 200# scale after he had been field dressed. I'm guessing he weighed around 200 to 225. I bought a 450# scale this year so we shouldn't have to guess any more.

My largest deer (9 point) that I got two years ago in the Bosque area field dressed at 150lbs. Largest buck taken there in 20 years. I am scared they are all gone now.

The bigest deer I have shot was a 10pt in kendal county, he dressed 115, which is pretty good for a lowfence hillcountry lease, without a drop of protein on it. Estimated age was 5.5, old deer.

Mulie taken last November, south of Marfa, dressed 200 lbs. I know it's not a whitetail, but the question related to "Texas deer".
