I just got through running my dogs. I always keep a case of LA hot sauce sardines in my dog box. The boys and I eat them for lunch with crackers when hunting. My wife didn’t thaw out any beef for dinner because we were in Fort Worth all day. We decided to eat them for supper. They were great as always. My wife told me I was gross for crunching up a handful of crackers to mix into the juice for the last bites. I’m glad I had to get the shock collars out of the box tonight.

How many of y’all grew up eating sardines, potted meat, viennas, beany weenies, and other canned goods for a hunting lunch?

I used to like smoked oysters. The last time I had some I was fishing Amistad and had the chits all day. They may have been in the life jacket box a little too long.

Beanie weenies, Vienna sausages, potted meat and other things of the like. I have a sardine supply, and it’s time I got out the crackers and hot sauce..

My Dad ate all of the above, but was real fond of sliced onion sandwiches. And, he’d chop up sardines and soak em in lemon juice and put that on crackers. I need to give that a try soon.

Like to put Cholula Hot sauce on mine wit Ritz crackers, as far as smoked oysters when you have $ to blow order some from Seabear out of Washington State. Suckers are huge and great

After you brown it in the skillet, it's a totally different flavor and
texture. Makes for a good sandwich with just a couple of slices
and plain yellow mustard. That and a small can of pork n beans
is a good refuel

2 doctors ago recommended tuna to help me out healthwise. Never could stand that stinkin mess, so I had to
get creative. It's way better if you drain it and refill the can to the brim with lemon juice and let it sit a few
minutes and drain that off. A friend recommended that asian sweet chili sauce, and it's ok. If I just eat it
fairly plain I'll put some ranch salad dressing and bacon bits in and make a sandwich with that.
The 1st doctor that put me on tuna said that the omega3 in tuna was good for me. This latest doctor
sez that sardines are healthier than tuna with more omega3, but I couldn't prove it does.
I do like some good sardines though. Been meaning to try one of those trendy battered and fried sardine
recipes but I've never got a round tuit.

Never had a problem with eating sardines. The regular can easily rides in a pocket, and a few crackers in a
small bag makes for a good something when you're away from everything off in the woods. I've been
buying the store brand in oil and they're pretty good. Kinda smoky flavor even though it doesn't list any
smoke anything on the can label. The beachcliff with the jalapeno pieces are pretty good although they
charge more than 89 cents these days. Some of the mex sardines from the mex grocery stores are pretty
good, especially the mustard and the tomato sauce. Can't recall any particular brand name, I just know
them by sight. I tried some of the mex tuna salad in the regular small can a couple of weeks ago, and I
can't recommend it. Too runny and the peas and carrots in it don't have that good a flavor.

Years ago my folks used to make salmon patties with canned salmon, and I always enjoyed that.
My granny liked to buy canned mackerel when I would ferry her to the grocery store, and she'd
insist on making patties/cakes with that. They're pretty good, but cooking them stinks the house
up IMO

We ate it all
A can of Vienna sausage and a honey bun is a good meal.
Sardines and crackers or a sardine sandwich is good too.

I eat all the above although the Army burnt me out on Spam. I'm just getting back to eating it now. As for dessert, you can't beat peanut butter and syrup or cornbread in a glass of milk.

Yup all of the above, I like the deviled ham in a can as well.

I ate my lifetime share of Vienna sausage and sardines when I was chasing drilling rigs and living in my pickup….

Same with Denny’s, IHop, and Whataburger!

I’m done with all of them!

Never cared for Spam or other potted meat. barf

I can honestly say that I have never eaten any of those growing up, hunting or otherwise. I have seen a few of their empty containers on hunts in Colorado though.

I have not had those in years.

My dad always had some when he was working his dogs or when he was hunting quail.

Yep. All of them. Add kippers and smoked salmon, both in Louisiana Hot Sauce to your rotation.

Hash browns? You’ve never had hash browns? Good grief.

As for sardines, I was in Europe in one of those ‘dam’ places - Rotterdam or Amsterdam - and ordered a chicken Caesar Salad for lunch. They looked at me like I was crazy. Chicken was not an option, but you could get fried sardines on the salad. So I did. They were big, and fried. I’d rather have had the chicken.
