Always afraid to ask a classic rocker fan who did you listen to that wasnt classic rock . Pop or new wave style?

Early Madonna and Oingo Boingo for me

Were the Cars considered New Wave?

I'm a big genesis and phil collins fan myself

Blues, Dead, classic country, 70s-1983 or so metal, live shows from nearly every band pre 1985... ( 1984 or so is when recording techniques and drum tones became way too much and got away from a live sound ).

I'd say what I seek out anymore for music is just long live shows.

They got popular during the rise of New Wave, I would call them New Wave/PopRock and Rock combo

I would have considered them more pop-rock than new wave. the Cars were alot different than the Pet Shop Boys or Simple Minds

Oh man. Classic rock is my mainstay (graduated high school in 1987), but you could find a wide variety in my cassette case. Pink Floyd, Madonna (before she went nuts), Cyndi Lauper, Quiet Riot, Ratt, Billy Joel, Genesis, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Cars, Dire Straits, Thompson Twins, Beach Boys, Charlie Daniels, and a bunch more. You never knew what the ladies would prefer, so you had to be ready… grin

I ventured out with Kraftwerk (among a number of country artists). Finally getting to see Kraftwerk later this month (with only one of the originals of course).

INXS, The Cure and The Smyth's are a few more good ones. Growing up on the Gulf Coast, the surfer and beach theme music was prominent...

Cars were more rockish and American. Pet Shop and Simple minds were more international bands and more like new wave.

80’s we’re a really special time in rock, country, pop, and just about everything in between. I can and do listen to just about all of it from that decade. Some special (private) memories that take me back from many of those tunes.

Same here. While most of the time I'm listening to either Hair Nation (39) or Ozzy's Boneyard (38) on Sirius, I can listen to 80's on 8 or even 70's on 7 for hours. 80's on 8 will run the MTV Video countdowns weekly, and 70's will run the American Top 40 countdowns from given weeks for those years. Lots of good stuff.

But I'm still a rocker at heart.

Yes, Dale Bozio, "Destination Unknown", saw them about 17 years ago at Glass Cactus Gaylord Texan. Headliner following The Romantics, Ms Bozio was pretty wasted on stage, lots of vino being consumed by her. Sounded Ok, guitarist was wearing the gas mask like in the video from early mid 80s. The Romantics were the more entertaining band that evening

I spent 6 years in Europe in the 80's. That was the last decade that had the best rock music, in my opinion. I remember going to Nuremburg for the Monsters of Rock concert. Dio, Motley Crue, Van Halen, and AC/DC. Fantastic show. I was able to see Tina Turner, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, Tears for Fears, Pink Floyd, and many others. Miss those days.

How did you like living in Europe?
