Just realized my new F-150 Ford Tremor has a 2KW, onboard power generator/inverter feature. Looks like 2 AC/DC plug ins in bed near tailgate and a on switch. Not being extremely electrical or mechanically orientated, is this enough power to run my basic hunting trailer, lights, refrigerator, possibly tv or even trailer A/C? Sounds like the generator/inverter recharges based on engine being run off gas tank. Probably a good thing the truck came with a 36 gallon gas tank. Does anyone else on THF use this particular feature and how has it worked out?

is this enough power to run my basic hunting trailer, lights, refrigerator, possibly tv or even trailer A/C? You need to add up the watts of those items. You generally have 2,00 watts available. I'll bet you cannot run your AC but it really depends on how much the AC draws at startup. Also how long do you want to idle your truck for? An alternative could be a Predator generator from Harbor Fate.

Got it, my understanding is that lights are a pretty minor wattage draw, maybe 200w or so draw on the circuit, about 400-600w on a refrigerator, maybe 300-400w on a tv and possibly 1200-1800 on a A/C. So, maybe could only do the A/C on its own or the other items at same time. From what I've read, folks let that truck run in generator mode nightly while out camping and it works well, think it only runs as the generator requires re-charging but don't know the particulars..

I haven’t used mine much. There was a Halloween party in a parking lot and we needed to power a big inflatable haunted house type thing. Also used it for an air compressor and it worked great both times.

Depends on A/C size most window units are actually pretty low wattage. I can run my container AC, mini fridge and lights easy with 2000watts. But not Hotwater or any major appliance like microwave,

Add a Soft Start to your AC. That’ll help a lot to lower the AC power spike. Get a surge protector from Progressive Industries, a PT30X. When the AC kicks on, it can tell you what the amp draw really was. You have about 16 amps available. That should run the AC once you get past the startup spike. Just shut off the AC when you need to make coffee. Also, it would be good if your water heater can run on propane.

Just read about this on my 2025 chevy silverado. Mine is 400 watts or 3.4 amps not much going on here, might charge a laptop.

Sure it's tough on the alternator but hey alternators are cheap.

If it’s anything like the 2000w on my Powerstroke you might can charge a cell phone, it won’t charge my laptop, and sure won’t run a circular saw. Pretty damn worthless if you ask me

Seems like a lot of wear and tear on your engine/alternator if you run it for hours. A small HF inverter generator would be a LOT cheaper than an early alternator replacement, and likely use a LOT less gas than running a 6/8cyl. Also research if running your truck idle for hours can shorten it's engine life - happens on some of these newer engines.

Will need to do some research on it, but only thinking 1-2 night overnight stays in season, 8-10 times a year.
