What is your set up? Do you just run with the same gun you dove and duck hunt with or do you have a "turkey gun?" I have typically always used the same gun for turkeys as I do ducks, with the exception of changing the choke, but this year I turned a my Winchester SXP into strictly a turkey set up. It was a black shadow and I sponge painted it, put a Vortex Viper red dot on it, and I've always liked the cheap undertaker chokes. I shoot 3" Longbeard XRs and it'll kill them at 60. What do you use? Pics if you got em

My turkey gun started out as an 870 express, changed out the stocks to synthetic, put on a shorter barrel, sling swivels and a sling, and topped it off with a avian -x turkey choke.
Some days you're the pigeon, other days you are the statue!

I used my Browning A5 (28in barrel) to harvest my turkey last week. It got to job done but a lighter and shorter gun probably would be more comfortable. I also used the factory full choke, but I was shooting federal TSS.

I can tell you with all the manufacturers making sub gauge TSS turkey loads I'd never pick up another 12ga. I cringe thinking about all those 3.5" jaw rattling loads I've shot at turkeys. Before TSS hit the mainstream, I built 10-15 youth 870 20's with 21 inch barrels and had loaded 1 5/8oz TSS loads for them. We all thought we were in heaven carrying those guns compared to our 12s. Now it seems like all manufactures make a .410 or 28ga turkey gun. I know after toting around my son's youth .410 that weighs less than 4 pounds I feel like those 870 youth 20s I built are TANKS now. So much so, I'm about to either build or buy me a .410. Long gone are the days of needing a 12ga unless you just want to build muscle carrying it around the turkey woods.

I'm shooting my daughter's single-shot 20 gauge Stevens 310 these days over the old 12 gauge. It is deadly to 40 yards with TSS and weighs 5 pounds.

Mossberg Maverick 88 20 gauge that was taking up room in the safe for the last decade. Decided it needed to earn its keep. Shooting Federal TSS 7/9 shot.

Last year I purchased a Rossi Turkey Tuffy .410. At 3.1 lbs it's wonderful to walk and carry in the woods with. I'm shooting #7.5 TSS shot. It was devastating on the two turkeys I shot last year, each was roughly 35 yards away. As I've gotten older, I've been simplifying my hunting. Wish I could say that about my scuba gear!
Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!
