My oldest has been honing his baitcaster skills. After a couple baseball games this morning, we packed up and headed out. His third cast I hear him say “I’m on”. Look over and initial reaction was something in the 3-4 lb range. I set my rod down as I could see this fight was going longer than normal. As I watched the line move in the water and the way the fish was behaving, I had a feeling it was bigger than I originally thought. I am trying to coach him through and could see the fish was stripping line. She came up and turned sideways a couple feet under the boat and tried to hold my composure so he wouldn’t freak out. Got it to the boat, got hands on her and he dropped his pole. He was shaking and in disbelief. Took some pictures and sent her on her way. Took him a few minutes to get calmed down. Only fish of the trip but only one needed. He’ll remember that for the rest of his life.
