Presenting a completed A.M. Little Bespoke Gunmaker .375H&H built on a Winchester pre-64 M70 action. The rifle has both top and bottom extended tangs. A spectacular piece of Turkish walnut was set aside for this project. With its 25” barrel the rifle finished at 8lbs 2oz w/irons, and 9lbs 13oz with its Schmidt Bender 2.5-10x50 Polar T96 scope. It's beautimous!

If you don't mind the question, how many hours did you put into that?

Absolutely gorgeous. I’d use more complementary words, if I had any.

I love extended tangs.

That said, given the layout of the stock (and only a .375), were they necessary...or just a gorgeous add-on?

Like I said elsewhere, the scope is the only thing I'd change...and that's just my opinion!

Structurally not necessary for recoil reasons. That said the majority of the breaks at wrists are from sources outside of shooting, and those aren’t predictable. Extended tangs are merely added insurance/assurance. Certainly in the grand scheme of a rifle that will last several lifetimes; used on hunts with great investment, money well spent. Plus they’re purdy.

The scope choice came with great chastisement from the commissioners siblings kid, whom I built a rifle for years ago. I took the diplomatic approach and gave him what he wanted.

I'm with you there, my thinking being that a .375 is meant for big critters at fairly short ranges and a tough, low power variable would be the ticket. I'm not even sure what model that S&B is, but it looks like it's endowed with a lot more Xs than I think appropriate.

What would you put on it, Mr. 218 Bee?

Scope is a 2.5-10x50, chosen for its light gathering capabilities for dusk lion hunting. Remarkable glass.

I’d have put a Swaro Z8 1-8x24 on it.

At the end of the day, a scope doesn’t have to be permanent. There’s also a reason I only posted one photo of it…

TDK, what bottom metal did you use on that rifle? The floorplate release in the trigger bow resembles that seen on a lot of commercial Mausers of late.
