What could I expect hunting in eastern Hall County? Couple hundred acres.

Is that size acreage ok for 1-2 hunters?

I would think Hall county would need many times that acreage to have a chance at quality bucks year in year out.

Most people would say at least double that for 1 man.

Great potential, but depends on you and neighbors for old bucks. If the goal is old aged, trophy bucks then 200 acres is enough for 1 hunter who kills a buck once every 5-8 years or so.

I’m assuming low density since it’s a 1 Buck county.

I'm in northern Hall, and for the last 2 or 3 years, I've seen deer every sit. But I also have a lot of cover for bedding areas as well, and is kind of like terrain you'd find in the midwest.

For me it all depends on the terrain. Is there adequate cover? Any water? Or is it just open rolling plain? The deer are there, but a lot of factors will determine if they live on you or just pass through. As for the number of hunters, and through the context of my statement above, some places hunt big and some places hunt small.

Appreciate the insight. 225 acres thats fully set up for hunting but I haven’t seen yet. Trying to determine if the 4 hr drive is worth it.

What are they asking for the 225 acres? there are 6 of us on 1,500 acres between Northfield and Turkey and we pay
$1,900 each. Have water and electric, but wife and I stay in Childress. Outside chance for Mule deer and 150pt whitetail.

I wouldn't hunt more than one hunter. We're in neighboring Briscoe, on the river and hunt 8 hunters on 16,000 acres. For the right price it could work for one hunter/family.

I've been told that I do have a nice deal, so maybe you shouldn't base what he is asking off of my price.
This is my first year but the other 5 have been on for 21 years with same land owner.

I couldn’t imagine having that much acreage to hunt on. We had 480 acres but only 400 we’re on one side and as thick as the mesquites were it seemed huge. We’re really hoping for the best and after talking to the LO, we’re excited to go see it.

All depends on the layout and if you have a bunch of small landowners around you that all also hunt, or large landowners that don’t really hunt. If a lot of hunters on small properties, could be real hit or miss. Something like OnX could be your friend.

Let me mention a couple of things to consider on property in Hall County.
There are some nice deer there and some acreages around 200-300 acres can hunt say 3-4
hunters and other places can only hunt 1-2 people due to the varied landscapes in Hall County.
One thing to caution you on: I knew some guys that had a lease in Hall County and the property
looked good but it mostly held Mule deer. The guys said it was about 80% mule deer and 20% whitetail
even though it looked like it would be good whitetail country. They said it was common to have MD does come right through
camp but the bucks were far and few between and the Mule Deer season being only about 2 weeks along with
the antler restriction made MD hunting success poor. With the whitetail % low they quit leasing the property.
I am not trying to damper your possibility because the place you are looking at may be fantastic
but just be aware of situations like this and ask some specific questions. Hope this helps. Good luck.

The other side of the coin is my place being 90% WT and 10% MD. Some years I have heavier MD presence, some less. Hard to figure MD out in my area. They are very migratory... sometimes I'll see the same group a few days in a row, then they won't show back up until a week later.

How do you guys determine MD shooters with the AR’s in place?

For what it's worth, which isn't much. The single biggest whitetail shed I have ever seen from a Low fence deer came from some grassland country in Hall County. I know the cowboy that found it and they spent days riding the pastures looking for the match, the left side was well over 100"
