Picked up a Glock 20 with the idea to get up close and personal with some west Texas hogs. If you've done it what's your go-to round? I see a lot of hard cast but it seems like with no expansion the odds of recovery are low. Thanks.

I've been using 200gr XTP from Underwood. Hogs don't seem to care for it much. DRT.

I got one running @ 20 yds with hard cast in 40SW (THS). Gutted and broken front leg and jaw, Still went 100 yds or so. Expansion is not your friend on hogs.

Hogs have absolutely no respect for expansion, energy, velocity or anything unless it's a CNS shot. I've shot a lot of hog with rifles but only 2 with handguns (G20 and G40) and both with non expanding hard cast bullets. Both ran. The big 235 lb boar only ran 30 yards or so and it was a 20ish yard shot. The other one would not have made 100 lbs and went down hard and instantly. He did the Curly shuffle for a while, staggered back on this feet and walked away (55 yard shot). 2 of us spent 90 minutes following a blood trail that totally dried up and we never found the hog.

I'm headed back to TX for a May hunt and am carrying a G20 along with a rifle. The Glock will not come out of the holster unless the hog is inside 20 yards. It will be loaded with 155gr XTP's that run 1,250 fps out of the OEM barrel. It's accurate, recoil is mild and shoots dead on to the sights.

My 2 cents? Shoot at ranges where your accuracy is tight and consistent.
